Hello fellow VDJ Jocks,
I have 4 external HD's, using Lappy, Windows 8...
I can not see one of my HD's in DATABASE When I try to Check, Clean, Fix under the browser tab?
my database ends up on my C drive for this HD, I did a "add to search data base" and I can see the HD under "computer" in the left browser field??
THX in advance!

I had the same problem .... I fixed it a while back, from memory I had to allocate a drive letter to the external drive,
and I think I altered Read write and sharing permissions, all under the drives property tab.

I used 6 external drives on a 7 port powered hub in a case that houses them all. The drives never get unplugged from the hub nor are ever removed from the case. This helps minimize letter drive changes spontaneously changed by the computer after shutdowns, reboots, etc. thus negating the VDJ database that only recognizes the letters that used to be assigned each drive.
Best way to facilitate this issue is to name your drives. Such as WD My Book G, WD My Passport J and Seagate FreeAgent I. That way you know when you look at the drives in VDJ or even in "My Computer" that the drives names match the computer's assignment of them. For example if in "My Computer" your WD My Passport J is listed as WD My Passport J (G:) you know it should be listed as WD My Passport J (J:) you need to reassign the letter drive to match so that VDJ recognizes it.
Use this to fix these problems. (I know it by heart now from having to do it so often):

BTW: In Windows 7 and Vista it's a similar method
Good luck in the future!

Best way is that you assign a static (permanent) drive letter to your external HD such as O, P, Q, R, ... and not E, F, G...
In that way when you enter a USB stick first, and the your drive, it will not shift the drive letters.

Hope this helps

It's rather crude and ad hoc but it works wonderfully. I plan to install in a server type multi-disk enclosure.
I'll post pics this weekend of what I'm utilizing now
