Topic: Interupting a drive format

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I have a new 2TB internal drive, that I am formatting, externally. Are you still with me? I have to work tonight, and need to stop the format. When I come back, will it format where it left off, or start from the beginning? Any down side to interrupting the format?

What do you mean mount? Will stopping it, do any harm? When I come back, will it start from the beginning or finish where it left off?

No..

Kids, do not try this at home. I am a professional, and have the skill and knowledge, to perform these dangerous feats.

So if you do not know, I use a desktop. My 4 1TB drives are full, so I bought 2 2TB drives this weekend. As stated, started to do a full format, on one of the drives at 6am, Sunday. So it's getting late, and I have to work at 7pm. I ask for help. It's 6:45, I live 5 min from the club, and the drive is only 76% done. I am not going to stop this format. Here is the plan. We have a media player, setup for shift changes, and backup. I also have a back laptop, that has never been used, to do a gig. It is there to play a track in case something happens. I bought this to do gigs, but it had Vista, and I never took the time to get the pops out of the sound. However, I have put 7 on it, and figure I will try to set it up. The media player is playing, I need to download the drivers for the Hercules RMX 2. I am a video DJ, but decide that I will be happy if I can just get audio for tonight. Get the drivers going, but forgot, I need to configure it the way I had it on my main machine. Not getting sound on one side, because the crossfader is on the left, and I usually disable the crossfader , stuff like that. Finally I get sound, and now it's on. But wait, there's more. The external drives that I use to download my new stuff, is not analyzed. Now this machine is a core 2 duo, with 2 gig of ram. Cpu is at 100 %. Now most of you know, I don't care if it's at 100%, as long as the machine does not cut off. It is however a little scary. So I switch back to the media player, to analyze more of the music. Also this is only the new videos, and a lot of the popular stuff is not on it. But as I analyze, I think, wouldn't be nice to have video? So, I hook up the adapter, and after some configuration, I have video. So now, it is hard work all night. Content Unlimited, still trying to analyze videos, cpu at the max, (my screen freezes a few times), but all in all, it worked without a crash or hiccup. So I come home, the drive is done, and what do I do? Start formatting the other drive. It's 3:15, I have to be at the club at 7, and the drive is at 67%. So, I am analyzing all the videos, and adding some of the popular stuff to the external drive. Now, it was nice to only have to bring a laptop, but one of my reasons for using a desktop is the screen size. I have a 23 inch monitor, and I missed it. So, I will use my laptop again tonight, but will be back to my desk top tomorrow. Ok, I'm out of breath, thanks for the help.

I have found mirroring to be an effect solution to keep my back up laptop synced with my main. One is a Win 7 with an internal drive, the other is an XP machine that uses both an internal and external. I have figured out how to keep both in sync with each other and the iTunes playlists show up properly on the backup. It is not a one click process, but I would be willing to write it out and answer questions if anyone is interested.

Could be very useful .... I have a main computer (win 7 desktop) a backup laptop (win 8) .
these computers are connected to there own external drives I have a third Backup drive and it would be great to sync or mirror them to reflect
changes made on 1 to the others.

hey Rick sorry 'bout the tough night.....

been there....

on top of all that , there's still the ladies n there requests n drama ......

excellent juggling act , do you do birthdays ?? really kept your cool .....

you could be the new Dos Equis man.......

I actually own a BBE Maximizer, the hardware version. I think this has something to do with the laptop, or latency. It's not a biggie, as it's a back up, and it did work. I will go back to my powerhouse desktop. I carry subs, it's no big deal to carry the desktop and the monitor.

On second thought, I may look into that, as I loved the way it sounded on my analog system.

It will be a few days until I can write something up. Both jobs have decided to get busy at the same time. If, for some reason, it goes a while with nothing from me, feel free to send me a message kicking me in the pants.

So the real underlying problem was using your primary gig machine for a process you had no idea how long would take ;-)

I would have plugged in the backup laptop, used that to format both drives "at the same time" gone to work without any stress or concerns, and come home to two fully formatted drives ready to use...

Just saying ;-)

Roy

Yeah Roy, Joey pointed that out to me. Hey, I can't be perfect all the time (that statement will self destruct in 5 seconds). I could only do one at a time, because I only have one adapter.

JB, I will check that.

Wait a minute rick you mean you AREN'T PERFECT damn and I wanted to be just like you when I grow up ... like chuck said ... got everything done BUT the requests and drama that we have to deal with .... in fact dealing with it right now

Under advice of counsel, I disavow any knowledge of that previous statement.
