Hey all! I'm looking to buy a new controller, been using the original hercules rmx for years....I don't work a ton, maybe once or twice a month in bars/clubs, so don't want to break the bank. What would you guys recommend that's under $500.

Thanks!

Any thoughts on the RMX 2?

If your already familiar with the RMX and like it then shoot for the RMX2. However the NS6 is now $499.95, half what it retailed for just a few years ago. Its a solid lightweight unit and perfect for bars & clubs.

Really? It's still £699 ($1134) in the UK.

Yes, Guitar Center and Amazon both $499.99.

Also found a nice soft case on Amazon for $140. All you need in addition to that is the USB cable from DJ TechTools ( $15 ).

Any big differences between the RMX and the RMX 2 other than the balanced output (which is important to me)?

Unlike the original RMX, it has pressure sensitive jogwheels, but this isn't important if you don't scratch. It also has higher resolution 14-bit pitch sliders for more accurate manual beat matching and four pads that can be switched between loops, effects, samples and hotcues.

Does that USB cable really make that much of a difference?

I got a Reloop Terminal MIx 2 a few months ago and I am a really liking that right now. Full featured and still fits in a large backpack. Really good build quality. A tad bit more than your $500 budget, but I think its worth it.

Another one I really like, but the jog wheels are too small for my taste, is the Denon MC3000

I haven't looked back since getting a NS6, it's a beast!!! High quality soundcard with LOTS of headroom, super responsive and the hardware mixer makes setting back up a breeze without need for an external mixer. $500 for one is a steal!!

Gemini GV4, check it out

There's always the Pioneer DDJ-SR or DDJ-SB too.

Not literally but I've had issues with losing connection between pc & controller. Most recent I could break connection by moving cable at the pc input. And this is on a 1 year old laptop with tight fitting USB's. Better to have it & not need it out on a gig.

The RMX 2, is a great little controller. I was using it in the club for over 2 years, because it fit on top of the Denon 2016 mixer perfectly. Loved the talkover control. I was also lazy, and did not want to keep taking my Denon MC6000 out of my mobile rig. However, I missed the advantages and have rigged up the booth to fit the MC 6000. I also recommend that you not just buy a controller for your skill set now, but get one that will grow with you. Save your money and get what you want, not what you can afford. You will end up getting another controller, as soon as you get better.
