Topic: kaos mini 2

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Hi i have just got Vdj working with maya 44, 2 technics 1210s and behringer vmx200 mixer with send and receive option

my question is this :

should i get the kaos mini 2 to add effects and more interest in my mixes (i would plug into send and receive on my mixer)

or should i get the novation dicer to use as a midi controller and just use the effects in VDJ.

I really wanted a sampler that would allow me to "sample on the fly" or sample live then remix live with pads but realise i would probably need a proper mpc to be able to do this and don't have the money to fork out for this

any advice would be greatly appreciated

firstly if you need to add more "interest" in your mixes you should play better songs, for the most part effects aren't needed to make a good mix, I would argue that they have the potential to ruin more mixes that they help...

Next if you get the korg you will need to replace your mixer to one that has an fx send/return otherwise you will only be able to use it on the master output affecting both decks at the same time. but korg effects aren't that great sounding. Granted I only have a KP2 so they may have improved from my version, but they sound very digital. and with the touchpad it is very hard to get consistency using it.

you could map the sampler to the dicers as there is effectively 15 buttons on each dicer, It wouldn't be great for effects though.

I wouldn't bother with an MPC, if you can handle having only 12 sample slots and want to do it cheaply I would get 2 LPD8's which use the same pads but are just a controller and they're ridiculously cheap in the USA this weekend.

If you're willing to pay a bit more I would get a Maschine as then you can drum and sequence all in the one unit... Not sure if you can rewire into it or use it as a VST with VDJ though.

In the end it really depends on the functionality you're after and whether your willing to hedge your bets on VDJ8 being released any time soon as that will bring the sampler up to a decent level of functionality from the information in the teaser videos.

Cool thanks will look into maschine, I wounder if I can sample live direct from source,

I

My mixer has send and return and I guess I would plug maschine into that slot on mixer, also this works for mini kaos pad which I'm still keen on as I don't like the effect vdj has

there you go, it does have a send/return... Learn something new everyday ;-)

If you want to sample directly from the source in VDJ you could try something like this.

record button
down ? loop & sampler rec on : sampler rec off & loop_exit

you can change the default sample on the skin or you can hard code the sample you want to record, it will record a sample as large as the loop size you have selected on the skin.
