Topic: What professional grade sound cards are you using?

I am looking to buying an external professional sound card but I am wondering what you guys are all using?

I've heard the Numark DJIO USB card is popular...

I would say go with any Native Instruments sound card.
I use an NI AUDIO 8 or an RANE SL3. Trying to decide if I should an SL4 or the NI AUDIO 10 at the moment though.

But I recommend any NI card.
 
I either use the one in my Denon DNX1600 or Rane SL2. The sound on the SL2 is by far better sound than any soundcard I've had including the NI Audio 4 and Audio 6 as well as the Hercules. Personally speaking of course. Sound is very subjective to a certain extent.
 
The DJIO is popular because it's cheap. As it's cheap, the quality won't be great.

It really depends what you would call "professional grade". How much are you prepared to spend?

Do you want to use the unit to connect into a mixer (so it needs at least two stereo line outputs on RCA or XLR) or are you wanting to use it to cue directly (so it would need a RCA/XLR master output and a headphone output on a jack)?

Looking to spend under £100 if possible!

I would like it to connect straight into my pa system
 
Ah, so you don't really want a "professional grade" one then. You just want an average/OK one. :-)

Straight into your PA? So which of the two types I mentioned would fit that description for you? Do you just want a single master out (mixing within VDJ) and to cue directly on the unit, not involving an external physical mixer?

Not involving an external mixer mate :)
 
Numark DJIO then, or Native Instruments Traktor Audio 2.

There are loads of others around that price range too, but those are probably the most common/popular.

I have the Native Instruments Audio 2. Superb little sound card. needed a professional card to use at a venue with a Formula Sound mixer (and DBX and Bose sound system) needed my output to be at a higher level. Didn't notice an immediate difference in sound quality, but now every time i go to a gig and forget my Audio 2 i definitely notice that im using the on-board soundcard!! (thru any sound system)

After testing several sound card such as:

Maya USB Hecrules RMX, computers internal sound card, etc. ...

The best by far and I can say that this is the rolls royce of the cards I've had is:

The Xone4D Allen & Heath "20 CHANNEL USB AUDIO INTERFACE" !

Certes, this is a big mixer, midi controller, but a true internal sound card and configurable to wish happiness, -)

Are there internal sound card options. I am going to build a rack mount desktop computer. Im tired of always having to buy a new laptop every few years. I want a desk top that I can switch out parts when needed.
 
im using a steinberg MI2, has an awesome sound and the latency is brilliant, it originally came as part of a cubase package worth over £300, but i found it on a boot sale for less than £5 so i bought it, its never let me down and has great audio quality.

the fact it has a mic throughput, headphone out and instrument inputs also adds extra likeability.

dont think you could get hold of one these days like, and as much as id like a new card, i think to myself, why replace it when theres no need.
 
Another thing you need to take in to account is what you want the soundcard to handle, are you looking for something that could be used with timecode? Something that will give you 4 deck output or are you happy with the 2 that the DJiO provides?

Over the past couple of years I've had the Numark DJiO, Hercules Trim, Reloop Play, Native Audio 2 & 6. I found the Numark iO kind of 'fuzzy'. The best of the bunch in my opinion are the Native Instrument models, nice loud punchy sound and not overpriced. I still keep a Native Audio 2 as a backup incase my novation twitch soundcard fails.

I used this in an old Sony desktop I used to have, never gave me problems even when I used timecodes

For about a 100 bucks djio is adequate. I use the djio and NI Audio 8. Audio 8 cost more because it can be used for multi applications. DJIO only has two channel capabilities. Sound quality is better on the Audio 8, but no one dancing has ever come to me and said, you must be using the DJIO channel for this song, i can tell it doesn't sound as good as the other channel that you have the Audio 8 connected to.
