Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone can shed any light into this for me ?

I have both Firetext and EM and am trying to hook up a camera or
Camcorder to create a live feed which I can put on a TV or a projector

I have tried this on the camera tab in VDJ on both of the above but it
Only finds the inbuilt webcam and won't find either a camera or camcorder
So i guess I'm doing something wrong ?

Been doing some more reading into this I believe I may need a USB to
HDMI / Component capture device which fools the computer into thinking
It's an onboard webcam and this should sort out the problem.

Has anyone else actually done this and could give me some advice how
I go about doing this on a Laptop, win 7

I tried using a web cam before and encountered the same issue. With a webcam, to the best of my knowledge, it will only work via USB. I tried using a wifi security camera but it did not work. I'm currently using my iPhone and the Epoccam HD app via my PCs hotspot. This setup works flawlessly. Only drawback is no zoom and not a great picture in low light.

Looking to get a wifi enabled camcorder and hoping that will work.

I use this, with this. It will work with any of the three camera plug ins. I don't use a laptop, but I guess it will give you an option of which camera to choose. You should be able to see your webcam, and which ever camera you have hooked to the capture device.
 
Thanks Amahm, Another interesting way almost along the CCTV
Route which is a very expensive way to go by the the time you buy
Remote consoles for controlling it etc.....
 
What you have to bear in mind is that a camera needs a large lens and sensor to capture images in low light - which is the environment in which DJs usually work.

Webcams, camera phones and the like are not designed to work in low light. They have tiny lenses and sensors.
 
Clean out your garage and find the old family mini-DV camcorder. Usually they have a video-out cable, larger lens that's good in low light, can zoom and usually have a tripod plate so you can use any inexpensive tripod. Just plug it into the the above mentioned video-to-usb converter. Tigerdirect.com retail stores usually have all models of video-to-usb converters.
