Hello - I'm looking for a way to be able to search my VirtualDJ database of tracks outside of VirtualDJ preferably on an iPad. I'm sure I can find a way to read the XML file and convert to .CSV and then find an existing app to import the .csv ...... I've also thought about using an application that scans my music file directory and builds an index that way... but I've not been successful in finding the right application.
Since I haven't had much luck being self sufficient - I thought I would check here to see if anyone else had suggestions?
Thanks!

Just a quick bump to see if anyone has any ideas? I've continued to look without luck - I'm having a hard time believing a tool like this doesn't exist.

The ability to search the database on the remote VDJ app has been requested since the app was first released (2010 I believe).
With the database XML on the iOS device, I'd imagine it would be possible to implement. Whether they ever will or not........

Thanks Groovindj!
That would be a great feature! Especially if the App could pull the XML from a dropbox account so it would sync right to my device as I updated it on my gig machine.
I'm looking at 3rd party solutions right now.
1 - write a script and convert the XML to CSV and use a database app to import the CSV file.
2 - find an application that will generate the CSV from scanning mp3 files/folders and then use database app to import CSV file.

Could even make it easier, just read the xml as it is ... (without converting to csv )
Might already be some xml reader apps, or you can use the vdj iremote as mentioned..

Thanks for the suggestion dj-in-norway.
I've read about the vdj iremote app - it doesn't appear that you can search from your database within the app. Even if it's possible the App information says you need to be connected to the computer for it to function. I want the ability to search my song database without having a computer.

yeah, I see what you'd want..
Should be fairly easy to code something like that ;)
If you dont mind me asking though, why do you want this btw?
Besides the obvious, that you want to search your database on your phone/pad..

For a couple reasons - (mind you I'm a mobile DJ, not club)
1: when looking at new music to add and I don't have my gig machine fired up, I'd like to be able to search my music library.
2: when meeting with clients and they say do you have "this song" certainly it's easy to always download from iTunes or Amazon - but you still get those pesky clients that want to know "right now" if you have a song or not.
With 5,000+ folders and 75,000+ tracks, it gets difficult to remember what all I have.

I see.. ;)
Should be as simple as making a webview app ..
These kind of apps renders a webview as the "app" and can store offline file ..
and just parse the xml with javascript, plus add the feature of downloading updated xml at neeeds ..
Maybe someone wants to give it a shot ;)

Why not build it into the iRemote? It's been requested for a long time.
Hopefully when the iOS version of VDJ 8 is released, it'll be part of that - because VDJ 8 is allegedly multi- platform now.

I have asked the question about the iOS version several times now, and even PMd the COO who hasn't replied so I would hold your breath for an answer to that one.
Must be some big secret!
