Topic: Upgrading my computer, what should I get?

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Currently I use my custom built tower and it works great. The only down side is that it is a tower. I want to move to a laptop, so what should I get? Do I buy a Mac Book Pro or an Alien? Also what about storage on a laptop, what is the best external hard drive and the best connections for it. Please give me your input.

Macbook Pro - All the way, man... preferably 15."
Just like most DJs, I started with Windows too and encountered several problems.
"Once you've tried Mac, You will never look back." Very, very true to me.
Aside from my workstation Imac21 and Mac 13" that I gave to my daughter (too small for me to use on mixing), here are my 3 Macbooks for gigging!

shooo...I was just on the facebook group, people conplaining about things not working with mac...why go through that? I'm a firm suporter of windows...and definetly the Alien...me? m18x (big beutifull screen, yes!) running dual 1 gb nvidias GeForce 460m x 2 graphic cards which as someone very respected here posted yesterday it is the minimum recomended if mixing videos ...

I say go with a Mac or an Asus and with both go for the biggest dedicated graphics card you can afford if you plan on running video.

My Mac has a 1 gig video card and it has never let me down.

My Asus has a 2 gig video card and it to has never let me down.

The thing about windows is drivers, they can be a real pain in the ass plus Microsoft is always sending updates which can also be a pian in the ass.

If it was me I'd say away from anything Dell but that's just from my personal experience.

If you want the convenience of a self contained system, get yourself a laptop that has two drive bays and keep everything internal.

Or use an optibay :)

Did you build your tower? Are you Mobile, club, or both? Do you have any type of disability?

Yes I built my tower;
MB-ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3
2-SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit
AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Thuban 3.0GHz
Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W
16 GB Ram
and I use the Pioneer DDJ-SX
with 2- Bose L1 Model II with B2 Bass Module

I am a mobile DJ
No disabilities although I did have a heart attack a few years back.
I hope this helps.

Wow, we have a lot in common. We built our own desktops, are DJs, and have both had heart attacks (9/28/11), and lived to talk about it. My current unit:
ASUS P8Z77-M Pro motherboard
Intel I7-3770K chip w/ stock cooling
Super Talent 16G RAM
NVidia GTX 660 2G GDDR5
PC Power & Cooling 750W Power Supply
TP-Link WDN 4800 WiFi Adapter
Super Talent 128G SSD
4x2TB WD Black Hard Drives
LG DVD
AGPTEK Front Panel USB port-multi card reader
All packed into a PC Design Lab Qmicra v2, Small Form Factor Case, look here (notice the built-in carry handles). With a 24 inch monitor. I don't know how big your case is, but a micro ATX case is the way to go. Just look up Small form factor. The case I have is no longer available. It was a small American company, that went out of business. I paid over $350.00, because I got the Stainless accent plate, and stainless on/off lighted switch. I actually built two, one for my best friend. I had a Liam Li case, before that, and used a carry handle from here. I worked in a club 5 days a week, and then came home and hooked it back up. I use this for everything. The reason I asked about having a disability is, let's face it, some DJs do. They are not able to lift or carry items of a certain size and weight. They need to travel as light as they can. However, I am still lifting 15 & 18 inch subs into venues, one more piece of equipment, is not going to kill me. So, to me, the only advantage of a laptop is size.

The benefits of my desktop.

Any screen size I want, the bigger the better.
4 USB 3 and 4 USB 2 ports, no hubs.
Read any card on the market
DVD Player
8TB internal drives
Any component can be replaced or upgraded in a matter of minutes. It will take you all day, just to remover the screws from a laptop.
Case can be modified to your liking.
Can be liquid cooled.
Runs all day and night. I don't know how to spell overheetin.
Easy maintenance.
Satisfaction of building it myself, Priceless.

Happy to report that I just ordered an Alienware just for Djing...and video editing....and visual creation in after effects...and video game crafting in unity...you get the idea

Alienware 14 Intel Core i7 16GB Memory 1TB HDD + 80GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 14" Gaming Laptop Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - ALW14-5002sLV

Wow, you were not kidding! Your computer sounds great and there is nothing like being able to say I built that.
3 months ago I got rid of my 100lb each mains and subs. Bose is amazing and light!
We should compare stories sometime. Thanks for your input.
