i currently have a stanton M.203 mixer and am just starting out. is there any subscription i could buy that would allow me to use a sound card but avoid paying the full 300$?

There is a chance to get a Controller Licence, but according to this link,
i am not sure if your controller is supportet by VirtualDJ:

Just download V8 Home Free here:

and try if the unit is supportet.
Home Free will work 10 Minutes after each launch as a Pro Version.
