Topic: Is DENON MC-6000 MK1 good with VDJ8?

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I have the chance of buying a used Denon MC6000 Mk1 cheap and wonder if this is a good controller with VDJ8?
I will use this as backup controller with a dedicated PC and will use ASIO drivers.
First I thought of a more cheap controller like the Pioneer DDJ-SB or similair Numark units but as said, have the option to buy this 6000.

Yes, it's work fine.
I'm using it for gig with VDJ 8 without any issue.

I have owned this controller since it came out. It is a great controller and was made for Virtual DJ.BUT, the buttons start to fail, meaning you have to press them multiple times, especially the play and the headphone cue buttons. This is an issue with many users on this forum. Also, the ASIO drivers are (how can I say this nicely), doo doo. This is also widely known. So, I would advise you to look at another controller. I don't know if they used different buttons on the MK2, but I will be looking at other controllers at the AC convention, in August.

I have also owned this controller since it first came about 4 years ago. I agree the play buttons do have a problem. I can still manage with mine but have to press them at a slight angle rather than in the centre. I don't use the headphone cue buttons so can't comment on them.

I've not had any problem with the ASIO drivers and am still using them.

One major issue I've had; channel 3 fader eventually fails due to a design fault. Mine had to repaired after around 10-12 months, they messed up the repair and replaced the whole unit. Strangely after 10-12 months channel 3 fader failed on this replacement unit. It also went back for repairs (glad I took out an extended warranty). Yet again after around another 10-12 months channel 3 fader failed again, however, it was now out of warranty and I never got around to sending it away for repairs, instead I reprogrammed VirtualDJ to use faders 1 & 4 and am still using it like that. Its odd that only fader 3 kept failing yet the others are still OK. I was told that it was how fader 3 was attached to the motherboard. To check for this fault you need a 4 channel skin on VirtualDJ and move fader 3 up and down slowly, if the fader onscreen leaps up and down as though it's out of control then it has the fault.

Other than that, it's a great unit. I am still using mine doing weddings every weekend and don't have any plans to replace it yet. I quite happily work around the faults.

Thanks for all your valuable input as always.
I notice that Denon has a Windows driver dated 2015 on their website. Perhaps this is an improved ASIO driver, AMAHM?
The least thing I want is to have a problem with drivers, cracks and pops.

Perhaps heading for the newer MC2000 unit instead. This will just be a backup unit and do not need all "flagship" features in 6000.

To all those with MC6000s or just about any other controller made that has sticky button problems, there is a cure! Actually a couple of cures but one is easier than the other so I use it most.

1) open the machine up completely and replace the faulty buttons with either new buttons or by swapping buttons that you don't use often for ones that get abused. This requires soldering and is a major pain in the ass.

Since the MC6000 requires about 300 screws to be removed to replace those buttons I prefer this method:

2) First purchase this: http://comingsoon.radioshack.com/radioshack-control-contact-cleaner-and-lubricant/6400148.html#.VaDLDvlVhkw
Unplug the unit.
Find a sharp narrow point knife and make a small slit directly into the faulty button making sure to go all the way thru. Stick the red tube of the spray completely into hole and Give a short spray. press the button about a dozen times. clean up your mess and all will work perfect from that point forward.

I have used this method on controllers back to the very first denon CD players and have never had it not work or damage the unit in any way other than the small slits. I have also never had the problem again on ANY of the devices that I performed this on.

Do not do this on any product that is still under warranty and only at your own risk.

Good luck
Rusty

I have replaced the switches in my one and it's not too bad a job if you are good at this sort of thing. Switch cleaner doesn't really work in my experience.

The problem lately is getting a hold of new switches, since Denon got taken over its all gone to hell and spares are impossible to find.

You don't need Asio drivers if you're not scratching, the WDM ones work just as well.

All in all its still the best controller I've ever owned and I use it in conjunction with the SX2 depending on the type of gig.

I have never had any problems with the Denon drivers when using a balance output, XLR, or otherwise, and I have two of their controllers plus a pair of CDJ'S. Since the Numark group of companies took over Denon my respect for their hardware has decreased, and I would be wary of any new drivers.

I concur that the switches are vulnerable. You do need to be ready to open up a device if necessary, and If I remember correctly the switches are standard items which can be sourced anywhere on the Internet.

We had an almost new Pioneer DDJ SX which failed within 6 months due to a complex circuit board problem beyond my skills.

Hercules? Indestructible..but not cool.

Hi Rusty, it you seems that you're ideally suited to Denon !!

LOL yes..curiously on re-soldering a failed switch back onto the board in the position of the donor I found it then started working !

I guess the heat from resoldering managed to clear whatever was causing it to play up.

I just bought the Denon DJ MC6000MK2 and am fairly new to Djing--4 years, and I love it...only issue is the headphone jack/function does not work with VDJ7. This is a big issue--is there a new map out there now for this deck and VDJ7?
Also, how do I get the headphones to work with VDJ8?

I work as electronics engineer so soldering and doing such kind of stuff is not new to me.
I think a MC6000 will be good for me :)

What differs between Mk1 and Mk2 anyway? They look very similair on pictures, that's for sure.

There was some cost cutting with the MK2. Instead of being a step up from the first version, it is in some respects an inferior product.

See the comments under the article here where Silvio from Denon actually states what was removed and why.

OK. Still, buying a new Mk2 might be a more sustainable solution, than buying a used Mk1, even if I'm not afraid of doing repairs.
I can get a new Mk2 for 470Euro (with a 3-years warranty) or a used Mk1 for 265Euro. "Not that big difference"
