Topic: Laptop Died - Replacement Suggestions? - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

Well my 2006 Dell E1705 Inspiron graphics card lost its magic smoke today. The repairman at a local CPU shop suggested I put the money towards a replacement instead of bringing this one back to where it was (the motherboard would have to be used). Last year this laptop became my backup as I picked up a Macbook Pro. I spent over $2,000 on the MBP (including accessories). I don't have that kind of money to spend now on a "backup" ...

What would be your suggestion as a replacement (Windows laptop) that would be ideal for video mixing and using controllers?

I'm busy experimenting with cdj's, and controllers using the Internet, effects, and scratching. A 2.4ghz intel dual core, Win 7, with 5gb of memory has not been outside its comfort zone. Those spec's are within what is recommended by Atomix.

Respect VDJ's requirements.

Just buy an old one from friends, or family.

VDJ is amazingly frugal with system resources.

Whoops I missed the video mixing bit, however if you follow the VDJ spec's anything will do, blckjck mentioned he had been doing video with a P4.
Hm I would want a top end dual core for video, and loads of memory.
Adding extra memory is cheap.

VDJ does struggle where you use a controller with a motorized platter. that needs a beefy machine.

I'd go with an Asus with an I7 processor and at least a 2 gig video card preferably an Nvidia card.

I own 1 and I push that machine hard, heck it runs SDJ/SV with ease and everybody knows how Serato is with video on the PC side (shitty in case you didn't know 😜)...... Runs just as good as my MacBook Pro 👍

He does not plan to run software which cannot run video properly on most Windows based computers.
He plans to use VDJ 8 which is the best DJ software in the world.

Serato is typical shyster software.
They always have an angle to get money off people.
Their software is bloated so as to force people to buy new, top spec equipment.

Tricky !
Do you have to buy cue points as well?
I jest.

Serato, the software owned by the people who plan to sell you the air you breath.
Just say no.

Ron,

You seem to have a major issue with Serato. I personally don't like it one bit but also don't come on here to have a go at it in every post I write. They may want to get money off people all the time but also bear in mind VDJ is significantly more expensive so covers the cost of upgrades and plugins.

We get your message.

Keith

Ron, I have leveled your previous post, because it goes into some political stuff, that we do not allow on this forum. If the higher ups feel that I have acted incorrectly, they can release to the general public. I was going to edit it, but thought others should see it for themselves.

Ron,

VDJ, Traktor, Serato, MIXXX, etc, etc, all do the same shet!! They all have there pros and cons. Anything 1 can do I can probably do it with another.......... Get over it all ready and stop hi-jacking threads with useless information 👌

And people here are always asking if they can sell there serial number with there hardware it came with. If VDJ allowed them to remove the serial as well they to would have to buy VDJ all over again..........

I knew I should not have stated my beliefs in that way.
This is not the place.
You were quite right AMAHM.

I also like ASUS, and have one myself. However, they can be up there. What is your budget like?

That's a great machine, and not expensive at all. I was talking about this one. I was using a desktop, and was trying to get the biggest bang. You run video with that?

This is correct. I used to use a P4 with VDj7. I then moved it to backup status.
It has since been retired, but is still functional.

I currently use a Toshiba dual core. I do mix video and use video plugins like TellyVisuals and TelyMedia.
The full specs for it are in.a blog on my profile page.
I would recommend it to anyone looking to run just VDJ with plugins and iWall or IMU.
H will be testing it with running freestyler and the above as well.

This PC was a quick purchase at Walmart to get me through a summer while my P4 was my main rig. it has become my main laptop for a few years now.

It was under $300 when I bought it.

"Windows Recommended Hardware Requirements For Video Mixing.

Intel Core 2, or AMD Atholon X2
Windows 7
Multi channel Direct X compatible soundcard
2gb ram
200MB free HDD space.

ATI or Nvidia video card w/256Mb of dedicated DDR3 Ram.
Video card must support dual-screen output."

The Atomix experts have recommend the above standard specifications.
This is not the minimum hardware requirement.

This should be more than adequate for a backup machine, particularly if funds are in short supply.

I would recommend at least 4gb's, or more of memory, but that would be a cheap upgrade if needed.

That's an interesting link Mr Bennett.

The screen sizes seem a little small?

Use the filter tools on the left side of the page to select features.

Thanks to all those who replied (staying on topic *smile*).

I have to admit that after using the MBP I really like the backlit keyboard and it helps tremendously. I keep the laptop in a wood-box cover to protect it from flying drinks. Having the backlit keyboard helps my eyes from straining, so I would really like a laptop with that.

The more USB ports the better...the Dell had 4 ports the MBP has 2 ports thus I have a small powered USB hub 4-port to power 1) Cooling fan, 2) Video converter (HDMI to rca), 3) USB Camera, and 4) Denon controller HC-4500.

As far as a "budget" I do not really have a specific number in mind, at the same time though I cannot forsee dropping another 2,000 as I did with the Macbook Pro (I primarily use Windows 7 and VDJ 7.4). Again, this one I am seeking suggestions on is for a "backup" so it will be used lightly but heavily for videos when in use.

I like the one that beatbreaker1 suggested. I could have bought that one and a new Samsung tablet, with money left over, instead of the Surface Pro 3.
