Two of the main constraints in Rekordbox are the playlist size of 1000 songs, and the collection maximum size of 10,000 songs.
Folders don't work well so DJ's turn them into playlists, however on occasion a folder contains more than 1000 songs ?
The other constraint is the 10,000 song limitation, I'm on 9,778 songs at the moment, so I will shortly find out what happens when you exceed the limit.
It takes forever, and a day to configure Rekordbox.
I think they invented the word slow.
My old 320gb 2.5" IDE HDD in its case with an external 5V power supply is doing very well.
On the Digitaldjtips forum someone who knew a lot mentioned that it was wise to only use SSD's due to spinning drive overheating problems caused by the way Pioneer manipulate the data. I have been watching my HDD closely, but it seems fine.
The Pioneer XDJ R1 onboard effects have turn out to be very good.
In particular I love the beat synced effects.
A simplified XDJ R1 VDJ8 effects mapping has vanquished any stability problems.
There is the possibility that I might use Rekordbox to replace VDJ8 while playing specific sets due to the superb effects, however VDJ8 is the King for run of the mill DJ work. The two programs coexist quite happily.
Everything looks very good..for the moment.
Note: I'm on 10,066 songs, and still rising. I can't see a sensible reason for having a 10,000 song limit, maybe its gone. I'm using Rekordbox 3.

Really dont see the purpose of this topic existing in VirtualDJ Forums. Most likely, it will lead to a Rekordbox limitations/features discussion. Please use the Pioneer forums to report what you found.
Normally this topic should be locked, but i will keep it open for a while and give you the ability to reply and explain how this could interest VirtualDJ users.

VDJ8 is my main software, however it does need a backup. In the past I've used an array of things from mobile phones to whole backup laptops. This might be my most convenient backup yet with seamless integration into my laptop/software system. Yet it is more than just a backup, it complements VDJ8 in a similar manner to Ableton. The later software adds, at least in my case to the functionality of VDJ8. Applications range from warping songs to producing sample sets, and more. Pioneer contribute excellent hardware effects, however annoyingly only when using Remotebox/Rekordbox.
There is another point as well, to become mature DJ's we need to be able to move from one type of software to another. It's not impossible that on occasion I might go to work with just a portable HDD, and use Pioneer house equipment. The idea is to help create fully rounded DJ's, that is with the permission of Atomix.
Anyway the bottom line is that Pioneer give me, and other VDJ8 users an excellent backup system should we have the appropriate equipment.
Hm I suppose I should use the Pioneer forums, but first and foremost I'm an Atomix DJ. I might be an annoying one, but that is another matter. I even see Pioneer as the "enemy", along with Traktor, and Serato.

Funny how Pioneer does that, I mean you did say Pioneer was only for the privileged at one point in time and now you can't say enough good things about them, lmao!!
I do agree though their system might be slow but it works great after everything is all setup and running.
It's good to drop the laptop every now and again, keeps the ears sharp

Hm that's the rounded DJ thing. Basically lets use every tool available to help make things better for our audience.
Pioneer still piss me off. That I can't use my hardware effects to enhance VDJ is aggravating, and the price of a Nexus2000 is close to extortion.
Still..the effects are good !
You've got to remember I got the XDJ R1 for the price of a MC6000 mk2. What I'm saying is go out and get Pioneer kit if the price is right. I'd encourage some people to get the XDJ R1, but not all. It has been very troublesome. On top of that Remotebox/Rekordbox are freeware. I like a good deal. I could not afford the top of the range Nexus kit without going into debt, it is mostly for the elites.
