Why do you need a 10 band EQ on each deck and with different settings ?

I wondered that too, maybe he just wants that much control, if I had the dials and mixed trance I'd consider it [I'd also have to be persuaded trance isn't music devoid of all soul or funk] also an eq on deck means [if you make the eq last in the chain] eq control for the post fader stuff.

I've run separate 10 band eqs on phono level signals between tt's and mixer [ONLY to cut!] actually a pretty dramatic method for mixing/isolating [and dramatic listening to anyone who knows PA scream "You can't do that!"]

10 Bands are "too much" for real time compensation / adjustment. Even 4 Bands can be too much if you are not familiar with their principles.
Using a 10 Band EQ on an analog source to adjust it's sound pre-mixing has it's point ONLY if you mix between different sources (e.g. having different types of cartridges and stylus on your TT's or you're mixing TT's with CD's .e.t.c.). When you mix identical sources you need only one post-mix eq adjustment.

BTW: Initially the 3 band EQ on DJ Mixers was introduced in order to mix between different types of analog sources, not as a mixing aid or effect tool.
All the typical "club mixers" until the mid 00's did NOT had EQ adjustment per channel mostly because it was considered that on a club environment you mix media using the same analog sources.
It was only after the mid 00's that the 3 band EQ per channel become a standard on any professional DJ mixer because DJ's started to use it as a mixing aid and effect kit.
