It's skin dependent. Not sure if you can remove them on the skin supplied with VDJ but you can on many others.

Limon98 check out "browser Tweaks" its a god send lol go can pretty much alter skins to you liking without opening up the xml file....

If by gridlines, you mean the stripes in the Browser, then yes Browser Tweaks will do the job.
In the "Lists" tab,
- Have Stripes same color as Background (default #202020)
- Have Overstripes same as Over (default #252525)

click the wave symbol on the top toolbar, there's an option there

The extra lines of the Grids is indeed an option as loco said, but the dots themselves require a custom skin or an edited one.
If its the dots that you are interested to exclude from the waves, let us know of the skin you are using to provide further details on how to remove them.
