I'd like to be able to delete a highlighted song (from the database AND hard drive) with just one keystroke instead of the 2-step right click file operations -> delete. Is there a way to do this?

Not possible, nor likely to be directly via script.
Assuming you are previewing tracks and will be deleting several
time saving work around is to colour unwanted tracks a distinct colour, set up a filter folder to get tracks of that colour and then you can select them all from there and delete in one go.
My blog "lazy sunday script" covers this a little but Pachn has a better blog, you'll find a link on my wall.
Also application key then F then D then Enter to delete tracks is a bit less strain on the wrists compared to mouse work.

Yes, once you get used to it, the "color tracks before deleting" method is acutally a very elegant method.

Thanks.... That color/filter idea is a good one... never would have thought of that.
