You dont need a Pro License just to play files, even video ones. A Pro License is needed (in case of ver 7) if u need fullscreen output though
You should be able to play all kind of filetypes (at least the most popular) including mp4, unless those are DRM protected.
In case of VDJ, you can also specify the Codec used, so try QuickTime Codec if those files are not playing.
