The NY Times article is backward.
It's just single dimension hype which interestingly seem's to exclude white people.
We are now in a fully multimedia interactive profession with vast numbers of songs available, a wide variety of mixing methods and technical features way beyond those old time DJ's and their decks.
Times change but some people live in the past.
