I 'm trying to rip all my music to Alac I know it will take more space but the sound is better than MP3 . Effect sound better as well master tempo is spot on! What is your main digital format : Alac,Flac or just mp3?

Just mp3 with a decent encoder and rate.
We have a Bose F1 system and have tested FLAC vs mp3 and there is no discernable difference.
If you have mp3 files downloaded from YouTube or some dodgy Russian site (as a lot of so called Djs do) of course they will sound like shit.

I rip my music from a cd's I have noticed big differences the bass is not sounding squashed especially when you mix 2 songs together cimbals are nice to and instruments sound much pleasurable it's full sound. I have compared Alac and MP3 from a same cd and Alac sound a lot better and no distortion.

On most large sound systems you can not hear the difference between 320 mp3 and any other high quality format.... If you're doing recordings you might want to use lossless for that.

Are we talking about FLAC here as twice you've mentioned Alac. Is that something different?
As I said above it really matters the encoder you are using and the bit rate. You haven't mentioned what your mp3 are?

Flac Alac, all of those formats sound clean, but to be honest, unless you're dealing with a 24 bit 96 to 192kbps file format, you really won't notice enough of a difference.

I would think I would want all my music saved in an uncompressed format and as close to original as possible. There is no question any compression changes it. I might also have compressed versions of the original. Suppose some day you decide you want to use a different format. Do you want to convert from an uncompressed format or a compressed format? Every additional compression degrades it a little more. For most I cannot tell the difference listening to it but it reminds me of the sound engineer Paul. Any compression would drive him nuts. He would say there, did you hear that? I would say no. He says let me show you.. Then proceed to examine it in great detail and show me the problems.. Thank you Paul for ruining my listening experience. I want to enjoy the music and not examine it. While most may not be able to hear the difference, some may be able to.
Besides needing to be uncompressed, it may also need to be re-sampled before you actually hear it.

All my libray and VDJ database (about 100.000 titles) are in FLAC. For me is the ultimate format.

I had everything in MP3 before, couple of days ago I have tried Alac format comparing with MP3 and I was blown away with outcome Alac is the winner of course! Somebody said that you will not notice on big systems all I can say "you must notice the differences "especially on big sound systems ! I'm not saying people will hear the differences but they will enjoy their song in fully.I think that if you are Dj and playing out there you should have the highest possible format so people can enjoy the music you play.Alac /Flac format is professional if you still got your cd collection swap for Alac or Flac and you are happy man!

Just your opinion. I'm not convinced there is any major difference.

kradcliffe I was using LP's long time ago then I have moved to cd's and then MP3's . 10 years have been using just MP3 files. I have believed in MP3 until I have checked Alac and then I have checked effect + master tempo everything sounded amazing in Vdj! the sound you get from Alac is really professional ,trust me everything sounds perfect the hole track sounding much fuller ,instruments bass, cimbals everything! and I think all Dj's should try that format Alac /Flac same thing but Alac sound different compared to MP3.Of course this is my opinion man ,I'm not pushing anyone to move to that format I just highly recommending!

Make sure you did your proper double-blind tests before making any claims though :)

Just as a leveller......
Many Dj's have cheap speakers, amps and equipment, rooms have bad accoustics and the ambient noise of a crowd.......
How far would you go and how much would you spend to get a ''Concert hall'' sound?
Flac is great for a home hiFi set up or headphones....
But in the real world, even an expert will hear no difference between a Flac or an Mp3....
Just my opinion.

The file format won't make much of a difference. ALAC, FLAC, MP3 etc, but when it's a 24bit 96 to 192kHZ and up, then it starts to gain clarity, it'll sound less harsh, more musical definition, with less noise and better separation. Some people might even think it sounds quieter because it's so clean.

Unless you are a dog or a bat or if mistakes have been made during mastering, you will not be able to tell any difference between 24/192 or 16/44
There is some use for it during recording, when you have a big number of separate parts recorded with a very big amount of headroom, but otherwise there is no advantage.
