Hello - I have one more question that I can't figure out.
What is the new 'extra.db' file used for? Am I correct in assuming it needs to be backed up?

It's the Linked tracks database, the meta data for anything specifically linked is held there.

Perfect!
If I could make a suggestion - maybe call this links.db instead of extras.db? Not a huge issue but may avoid some confusion in the future.

Well, this db stores the links information for now, but it's purpose is to store some other data as well.
So, it doesn't make sense to name it "links.db" either.
It stores EXTRA information that's not stored inside database.xml
That's all the average user should know, and frankly he/she should not bother about the naming either :)
