OK, DJ Gérald (French Forum) has found the WinAmp plug-in to which I referred in an earlier post on this Forum.
Apparently it allows to read CD Audio disks from within Atomix providing your CD-Reader is rapid enough at audio extraction and has sufficient buffer memory.
Give it a go (I'll try it out in the next few moments).

And it bloody works !
Download - Run - Shutdown&Restart and you're in business.
When exploring the CD you"ll find 2 directories on the Aduio CD named "mono" and "stereo"
You'll find following menu tree:
"mono"
"8 bit"
"11025"
"22050"
"44100"
"16 bit"
"11025"
"22050"
"44100"
"stereo"
"8 bit"
"11025"
"22050"
"44100"
"16 bit"
"11025"
"22050"
"44100"
Just select the audio quality as you desire (best quality is found in stereo/16bit/44100)
Playing & Mixing a track from CD with another one on the HD appears to work fine.
A quick test while playing two tracks off two seperate CD-readers simultaneously wasn't entirely satisfying in terms of sound quality (started skipping and stuttering).
