I didn't think I was this lame....okay here's the deal.
I have a hercules mk 2 with the standard virtual dj software installed with it.
Problem...
The Master output is going thru the headphone jack, and mointor is going thru my stereo.
I've double clicked on the alien icon, and tried flicking the DJ settings, little head phone icon around and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
I've also bought a version of Traker 2.5 and the Hercules isn't even picked up...anyone got any ideas.

I don't own this controller, and should not even say anything. I was wondering if you have the cables or the configuration of the sound card, reversed? Or a switch? If this is a demo version, there are some sound card limitations.

The alien icon? Sounds like you're using very old outdated drivers/firmware and software. Try downloading the latest drivers and hopefully that will fix your problem:
