Virtual DJ v4.0 was working fine for about a week when suddenly I get this message on start up,All saved folders have gone whats happened?. All the work that I put in i.e b.p.ms comments ,ajustments,playlists have all gone
p.s Apart from being able to work VJ I am not very computer literate,have seen other similar posts but makes no sense to me

Your database is corrupted and you need to remove it from your VDJ folder. It is "VirtualDj database (your win account name).xml" file. You should preserve that file and ask somebody here to help you to repair it so you don't need to rescan all your tracks again. And backup this file more often.

Alf is correct. Try and save this file after every fresh analyse you do.
I copy the file and save it into another directory away from VDJ after ripping new cd's to my system. It means it's fresh and clean everytime.
Corrupt databases can occur quite alot and if you have a massive music library, can be a pain to get back. I'm not sure how it happens, but I'm sure i've heard somewhere before that it can be caused by power outages and stuff like that, or random crashes, and even not shutting down properly, so be careful, and make sure you copy the file at least weekly.

Thanks folks ,I'll be taking your advice in the future, however I cant see the point of virtual folders if they are not suitable

harv i have had the same problems in the past so i e-mailed the company about it and this is what they said to do hope this helps..:
Hi,
You can repair your database (at the time of the crash)
1- Open the "VirtualDJ Database.xml" file with notepad (or other xml editor) and at the end of the text, delete the last bad sequence (after the last </Song> line info) and add </VirtualDJ_Database> then save it
Or delete it to create a new one. To delete a database, follow this step:
1- Close Virtual DJ (if open)
2- Go to C:program Files/VirtualDJ and delete this file "VirtualDJ Database.xml"
3- Open Virtual DJ (by default VDJ will create a new database) and scan your song.
Because the new database is empty you need to make a complete anaylse and add you cue's and comments.
Another program can't affect the VDJ database. To prevent this problem in the future, make a backup of the "VirtualDJ Database.xml" frequently. If you encounter another database crash, just copy/paste the last backup to find all your cue' BPM...(at the time at the last backup)
To prevent a database crash, always shut down VDJ with the "X"
button on the skin, and be sure VDJ is closed before you shut down your computer.
