I it absolutely necessary for 2 souncards? My HP Pavillion notebook obviously has 1 souncard with 2 earphone sockets. It is marked with earphone 1/2 and one is marked SPDIF. I've tried different configuration on ver.4.1 but without any success. If a additional soundcard is not necessary will someone please guide me through the correct sound setup? Thanks.

You don't need a dual sound card, but you do need the full version, to get headphone monitoring. With the full version, and a single sound card, you will need the right cable, to get headphone monitoring. It will be in mono, and will not sound as good as a pro card. You can get started with
