Topic: waveform out of sync

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

i have my new laptop(Asus A8js) for almost 2 weeks now
it's a very powerful one, core2 duo 2gb ram with go7700 512mb dedicated
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/61272/General_Discussion/ASUS_A8Js.html?highlight=asus

my old one almost 2 years old, a sony vaio s38(centrino 1gb ram with a go6200 128TC)
it took me almost a year(not having enough time to wrestle with it every day) to make the videos run
a little tweak here a little tweak there
dedicated partition for vdj of course(thanks to dj-in-norway)
also adding a cooler(recommended for laptops with less juice)

now it's running almost perfect
i only dj 3 times a week these days and "might" have a freeze a night, "might" ...
videos run pretty smooth
except when i load a new clip, but on the main screen it's ok
the only thing that bothers me after a few hours the sound gets kind of flat,
like something is blocking the speakers
haven't figured out what the cause is
anyway

well, i did the same tweaks to my new laptop and also made a deticated partition, too
it works excellent without a 2nd display @ home
but everytime a connect a 2nd display
after a couple songs the waveforms get out of sync
they are about a half beat faster that the video & audio
and also vdj reacts slower
if i push play it actually plays a moment later
and if a release play it actually stops a moment later
as mentioned this happens not from the beginning
i tried this with different setting, performance, sound(maya & asio), codecs & buffer(latency) sizes
i'm using a maya 44 usb, by the way ...

somebody has any ideas ?

beyond that a few more question

i rarely use timecodes these days,
but is it still better to have the sound setting on asio rather than on maya without a timecode setup connected ?
would it make a difference ?

my new laptop works with both
(internal) video decoder and windowsmedia player video decoder
(i really didn't have enough time to make a stressful test though because of the above)
my old laptop only worked with windowsmedia player
which one should i use with my new laptop ?
are the internal codecs more reliable ?
what's the actual difference ?

that's it for now
everybody have a happy new year
happy djing

and thank you again all of you out there
the vdj team and of course all the users for their support

from seoul, korea,
matt

ok...
i watched the whole thing a little bit more closely
after playing fine for a while
the song suddenly skips
sometimes after a couple of songs
sometimes after quite a few songs
after that everything is out of sync and vdj reacts slower

try lowering your proformance tab on options :)
have you run a full defrag recently, try this one www.diskeeper.com it will run a boottime defrag which can realy help the free xp one is :(

still having issues
check that you have no irq problems

to see how or to find other tips/tweaks check my blog.

Simon

simon, thanx a lot for your input

after having trouble with the videos
i lowered the performance tab to the lowest
this is a newly installed dedicated(separate partition) win xp pro
all updates installed, latest direct x
got rid of most of the startup apps.
uninstalled most of the programs i'm not using with vdj
like internet explorer, outlook express etc.
turned off all unused components, like wireless lan, bluetooth etc.
tweaked the services
defraged all drives
the music videos are all on a external usb drive
playing well with vdj on my other laptop, which is much weaker :=(

i checked out the irq too
one strange thing
both laptops didn't show maya usb on the list
i have a few conflicts
pretty much the same on both laptops
i'm at the club now
i'll make a screenshot when i get home
and post it

thanx again,
matt

maya dint show in the list?

sounds like a possible driver problem try reinstalling it :)

geposted Fri 05 Jan 07 @ 5:00 pm
vdj listed the maya as a soundcard on all 4 windows versions i have on my 2 laptops
and as mentioned it's working allright with my old laptop,
but ...
(i'm using a korean win xp pro, please excuse me if i'm calling some terms wrong... )
all msinfo(2 laptops with 2 partitions each) irq windows do not list the maya usb soundcard as by "name" as you see below
they are listed in the device manager though, under the usb tab as maya usb 2.5.5
anyway, it's not a big deal i reinstalled them, still not showing up ... :-(

here are the snapshots
(again this a korean win xp, so ...)

irqs

conflicts

i hope somebody can help me out
in the mean time i guess, i have to use my old laptop to do my gigs...

sorry for repeating, but can somebody give me more details for the 2 things below i mentioned in the beginning

i rarely use timecodes these days,
but is it still better to have the sound setting on asio rather than on maya without actually a timecode setup connected ?
would it make a difference ?

my new laptop works with both
(internal) video decoder and windowsmedia player video decoder
(i really didn't have enough time to make a hardcore test though because of the problems i have)
my old laptop only worked with windowsmedia player video decoder
which one should i use with my new laptop ?
are the internal codecs more reliable ?
what's the actual difference ?

I doubt you get much benefits from a defrag..
The vids are decoded in ram, and with 2 gig of it, virtual memory is not used (pagefile).
But its always good to have defragged HD for performance..

The real issue here, is, as you say, it runs perfect at home, but not when using 2nd external monitor at work.

Try update your drivers , might be something better released. Nvidia have had some issues with 2nd monitor displays. Also lower your screen resolution colors to 16bits. 32 bits is NOT needed, and can make a huge difference.

Your PC sounds perfect, and has no IRQ problems... so this should work well on your PC.
(btw, USB devices such as Maya dont show on the list, but the IRQ for the maya is the same as the USB port)

Try the drivers, and lower the nr of colors, I bet it will make a huge difference.

Its not better sound in ASIO (not enough to care), so you can run in standard direct driver mode, when not using timecode.

VirtualDJs internal video decoder seems faster and better to use, so use that.

just a thought how hot does your computer get while mixing?

geposted Fri 05 Jan 07 @ 11:20 pm
skyfxl,
my old sony gets hot so easy
and it's noisy, too
i used a cooler and it got much more stable

my new asus
not getting hot at all
i ran vdj(videos of course), 3d games(quake, doom etc.) still stayed cool
keyboard and bottom parts not getting "hot" at all
it's my 4th laptop(1 fujitsu, 2 sonys & 1 asus) and by far it's the coolest, temperature and performance wise :-)

dj-in-norway,
this goes for you, too
same with skyfxl
i'm happy you guys are closer to me(time wise)

i will lower the colors
stick to the internal decoder
and try again

unfortunately, i wasn't that lucky getting new drivers for my go7700
the go 7 series and default geforce drivers do not support my 7700 :-(
i made searches, but... nothing...
my drivers are dated 2006-07-20
my forceware is 86.02
it might be a problem, but i think(actually hope) it's not

anyway, thanx again
both of you

try www.driversguide.com

geposted Fri 05 Jan 07 @ 11:56 pm
i tested vdj under different environments at home trying to analysis what the problem is

i left the colors settings to high(32bit)
and switch back to internal codecs
various video files(mpg, avi, m2v, vob and wmv)

- without 2nd display & internal soundcard -> running smooth
- with 2nd display & internal soundcard -> running smooth
(surprised me, i thought, connecting the 2nd display was the problem)
- with 2nd display & maya usb -> getting out of sync after a while

then i changed the colors to 16bit
- with 2nd display & maya usb -> running smoooooooth

i forced fade a few hundred clips(mpg, avi, m2v, vob and wmv)
clicked on unloaded parts on both decks
changed the pitch etc...
so smooth and stable so far

maybe it is a graphic driver problem
i checked www.driversguide.com, but nothing ...
i'm sure nvidia will support go7700 soon

i never thought this will make a change (because my new laptop's GPU is pretty powerful)
i used 16bit colors on my old laptop(go6200 tc) in the beginning when vdj started with videos
it helped a lot
now i got back on 32bit

well, it snowed a lot today here in seoul, korea
i guess it won't be that busy tonight
i will try vdj later at work again and hope it stays stable (pleeeeeaaaaase!!!)

thanx again dj-in-norway & skyfxl
love you guys,
matt

goodluck mate!

finished my gig and had a few beers ... hehe ...

at the beginning, when i was organizing a few clips with vdj
(i have a few virtual folders, where i put in the files i'm mixing during my gigs)
i was playing a clip, selected files in a folder and tried to drag them into one of my virtual folders
not exactly sure what i did wrong, but freeeeeeeeze... (video, audio & waveform playing)
had to restart vdj
i reorganized my files, everything went smooth this time
and started my gig
5 and 1/2 hours
and not a single glitch
well, i had one clip that played well on my old laptop and only had noise and no video on my new one
but... not a "big" deal really ...
i'm pretty happy

dj-in-norway,
just curious,
but what made you think it's the colors depth?
just a random guess ?
i would have understand this a few months ago...
well, anyway THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!
do you think it's the graphic drivers ?

thanx again
and happy vdjing~~~
