After reading most of the post on this forum I get the feeling that most users think that version 3.4 is the most stable with hardly any crashes however some feel that 4.2 is not a stable for now. Does 4.2 frequently crash on any of you users. I do many weddings and sweet sixteens for Latin party. And I can't afford using a software that will be crashing. I like the features that virtual has to offer but I dont have the confidence that is will hold up to my like expectations.

I use vdj at the moment for audio mixing only on v4.2 at the moment and works a dream.
It has been known to crash because of different effects used and also different skins. My recommendation is to stay away from user developed not vdj team effects and skins unless they are highly recommend and tested.
Otherwise no issues at all.

I have yet to crash in either 4.1 or 4.2 versions and i'm a touring nightclub dj. I actively mix both audio and video on a single AMD processor laptop.

I use 4.2 Four nights a week five hours per night mixing 95% video.
Total crashes in the last 3 months = 0
(I wish my driving record was this good)

9/10 problems I've seen on this forum are generally self-inflicted wounds that have nothing to do with VDJ. I've seen everything from over-taxed usb's to less then recomended ram etc. Think of VDJ as a corvette, you would never see a corvette running with a yugo frame and a 4 cylinder engine.
My advice is pretty simple, look around at the setups other users are having good results, and check the blogs there is so much here to help you get the most out of your VDJ. Happy VDJing!

Not so much crashes, but freezes and stall-outs and loading song problems.
Also, when I did a have what I called a completely reliable system
willing to use at weddings (also 6 nights a week) in ver 3.4,
I was getting flawless performance. Since trying 4.2, I have had to
nearly revamp a top of the line computer, tweak everything imaginable
only to get it to work a little better, but far from flawless, and something I would not
dare to take to a wedding. And please remember that the occurences I had initially had
that required 4.2's tweaks and revamps were at weddings that caused embarrassment.
Also, I do not ecommend using the automix in either version. It tends to cut out songs too short or let them drag at the end. Have tried all settings for fader time. Simply not a reliable automix unless the programmers can get it to slow down the traverse as it goes from deck to deck. That way it would avoid any quick cutouts at the end of a song.

It has been stated that 9/10 of problems are not VDJ. That simply means that 1/10 are.
Well, do you want to go at a wedding knowing that
you may be the 10% of users that VDJ will cause problems for and not
have anyway to solve your problem, because as previously stated, those 10% are
VDJ related problems, bugs, etc. that can only be repaired by them.

I had problems only when I WANTED to have them, for example while debugging. The only VDJ-related issue is a heap error with some mappers, but it isn't a critical error (even ifI think it MUST be removed).
As for DJ use, I've had NO problems yet.
PS: My plugins are debugged hardly, so there shouldn't be problems when using them.

i've been using vdj for about a year know and have had flawless performance. I've done quite a few weddings, party's, and small clubs with no issues. I even walk away from my computer for two or three songs at a time to talk with potential clients and vdj to date has been very reliable. Kudo's developement team. Now if i can only get my sound card set up to work just right i would be in vdj heaven.

the fade time, such as 8 sec. it takes 8 seconds
to travel across, thereby letting the songs gradually
overlap and leave a smooth decent mix. If you were to
set the automix at 8 seconds in VDJ (3.4 or 4.2) , it sets
a cue point at 8 seconds from the last measurable beat in a song,
but does not let the slider move over that same 8 seconds; it moves quickly
and appears to cut off 6 or 7 seconds off the end of that song.

In my situation it blends the 2 songs quite well.
Remember that I only use automix for the dinner portion of the evening and
sometines for the cocktail hour. Not during the open dancing
part of the evening.

As bryantpb mentioned. 1 out of 10 is still 10%. I can afford to go into a wedding gig not feeling confident that the software wont crash.

I've been using VDJ since Jan 5th and have only had one crash/lockup and that was probably due to me loading a 30 minute mixshow without having it pre-analyzed. I haven't even tried reloading a 30 minute mixshow since then but other than that I haven't had any crashes/lockups.
I'm running a Dell E1705 Duo Core 2 gig processor 2 gigs of ram 256mb nvidia graphics.
It's really about to get a workout during Mardi Gras as i'm DJing 7 days in a row for a minimum of 6 hours per day.

Used 4.2 twice a week, 4 hours a shot. all video. No Crashes! Actually my video driver has crashed more often! (Twice) while I was tweeking location of logo on screen, I don't do that any more during the night!

Obviously you've been very careful with the software. I keep a mental list of things that will cause the program to crash and I try my best not to do those things while DJing. Dozens of things will cause VDJ to crash, if you're a new user and you figure this out WHILE PERFORMING, then that's not going to go over very well. Things like
* Activating sonique plugin while video is playing
* Using virtual folders
* Deactivating video out while playing a song
and many other things will crash vdj. I'm glad you've never once had a crash Bagpuss but I've had enough crashes for everyone. I haven't discovered any new crash causers in a month or so, which means I haven't crashed in over a month, which is good. What would be better is if it never crashed at all though.
