Hazers are a better bet, if you have access.

Hazers are much better and don't set off sensors.

I'd skip the smoke machine. What we have found in years past (We haven't done a wedding in 10 years) is that the smoke has a physiological impact on some people especially the older folks.

They don't understand the smoke generated from the machine is in no way related to cigarette, cigars, or that other illegal "stuff" nobody smokes. You will likely generate complaints from those who have lung problems such asthma, emphysema or cigarette haters in general. It's not worth the hassle trying to explain to someone your type smoke isn't making them cough and it's all in their head.

Our advice: Leave the hazer at home and grab that $50 dollar bubble machine. Careful placement of the bubble machine is the key. I agree you sure don't want grandma falling and breaking her hip.

Would not definately use a smoke machine anywhere where there is food present , ie. a buffet , the smoke machines do leave an oily residue, i do use a Jem haze machine set on a timer to give a few short bursts of haze every few minutes just to enhance the light show , haze is water based and clears much quicker than smoke.

I definitely left the fog machine at home. I used my new chauvet oceana, a chauvet mini line dancer and chauvet color bank. Unfortunately, I was so far away from the dance area that I doubt if the lights had any effect, unless I count the 4 yr old girl who was trying to "step" on the effects. lol Everyone had a good time, though. I got so many CD's handed to me that I almost felt guilty for taking their money. (Just kidding) I can say that my first wedding gig was a major success. I'm looking forward to my May wedding gig. Thanks to all who replied to my post.

I have a martin hazer, and it set off an alarm at a gym of all places, and I had approval to use it.
I also have a bubble machine, and don't use it anymore because I have been told it stains wedding dresses, and I know that it makes the dancefloor slippery.
If the bride asks for the bubbles or fog, explain the risks. Make sure you put something in the contract and have her initial the waiver...
Anyway,
It's a wedding and not worth the extra headache.

Note for uk dj's using strobe lighting.
The Health And Saftey Act states that a strobe light can only be used a total of 40 sec every 40 mins this goes for nightclubs and mobile/private functions.
Mobile djs if you have a person at a private function who suffers from epilepsy you are required to remove the strobe from your rig.
This i know as my exwife suffers from epilepsy.
