I've got some debugging to do based on feedback from Kym, I'm trying to narrow down why certain conditions would cause a crash. I'm going to write a whole bunch of safety code, and add a "Debug" button for the beta versions that will log what is happening so hopefully we can catch it. I'll have that version ready and uploaded early this week :)

Regards,

Scott

I'm sure it is a problem of dll missing on their computers, I guess MSVCR80.dll, due to:

They have to download and install:

Hello everyone with problems with the SBDJ Slideshow controls not showing up. I took a gamble and put my console online. I updated windows until I had no more updates available in Express and Custom. I just opened the SBDJ Slideshow and guess what. IT HAS CONTROLLLLLSSSSS!!!!!!! Yippee!

Try it and I hope it works for you.

Now, I'm going to start testing everything.

Let me know if you don't get any luck...

OUCH!!!! I installed the compiler as you stated in the links, now when opening VDJ I get the error message:
"The application failed to start because d3dx9_36.dll was not found.

Now what do I do?

Also, I installed the latest 9.0c Nov.2007 on top of the june 2007 one I had?

Am i screwed! I can't get VDJ to work at all? Please help!!

geposted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 5:50 pm

Is it the new 9.0c direct X that is causing this, and do I need to go back to the older June 07 version I have, and if so, how do I do that w/o havio do system restore?

I'm helpless until I get some help, please.

geposted Tue 19 Feb 08 @ 6:44 pm
It's not the nov directx that's stopping VDJ, you could try reinstalling the directx patch and see if that cures it.

It's not the compiler runtime links above; it's your DirectX thats the problem.

It sounds to me like it's not updated properly. Can you list all the files in your c:\windows\system32 folder called d3dx9_XX.dll please (where XX will be two numbers)? I think 36 was one of the files in the November 2007 update, which likely means it wasn't installed correctly. I would run the DirectX web update if I was you to start with.

I didn't think VDJ was compiled against this file though, so remove the video plugins and see if VDJ will open then...

Scott

When you start VirtualDJ, the software will load the selected sound/video/transition plugins

What happens is: VDJ starts up if I hit ok.
But the error comes back wjen I click on the new slideshow plugin.
Then I deleted the plugin and everything was okay.

Why would that occur?

They appear to be mostly d3dx9_36_x64 or x86

The error was looking only for d3dx9_36.dll

I meant the actual files in your windowssystem32 folder; the x86 or x64 files are cab files and contain the relevant DLLs ;)

The problem occurred because your DirectX November 2007 update is not installed correctly.

Just click on DXSETUP.exe

geposted Wed 20 Feb 08 @ 1:10 pm
Thanx, CDcel, I did that and no mor error message. However, althoughthe controls are there,
I CANNOT open a folder and activate the slideshow.

I went to the other original slideshow and that activated and opened a folder correctly.
Th "open" button seems to do nothing when clicked on it?

geposted Wed 20 Feb 08 @ 4:48 pm
Also, after I finally get ths working, I would like to set up on my Show machine.

Do I ALSO have to install the net3.0 update (I have 2.0 now, I believe)?

AND, do I also HAVE to install that compiler vcredist_x86?

I just don't want to put anything in my show machine that I don't absolultely have to.

geposted Wed 20 Feb 08 @ 4:59 pm
Not sure, but would having my video on single screen make the difference.
This machine is NOT hooked up to a second monitor and the original slideshow functions well enough as I can see the
pictures in the lower right video square on this screen.

I just had a try with the slideshow funtion. Needed to upgrade first DirectX to nov2007 (had errors 3d3...) but works fine now. Nice,
I missing 2 option:
-maintain aspect ratio
-show full screen or original size.

geposted Wed 20 Feb 08 @ 5:43 pm
I think the whole purpose of this new slideshow is to mantain the aspect ratio, I don't see those controls either?

I don't think those controls are in the download version as yet.

Scott is still doing testing/ writing the latest version

Bryan I had the same problems and I think the reason I found was the folder had too many pictures in it.
From going back through this thread anything above 200 pics you will get problems. In my case I clicked 'open' on the folder I wanted to show and nothing happened.
Tried to click 'open' again and it wouldn't do anything.
So I shut VDJ down and done it all again but picked a folder with less pics and all seems fine.
