Topic: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS, Good for Video?

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I'm looking at investing in a video laptop, I'll be using VOBs.

Considering the card listed, 256mb dedicated ram.

Here is the laptop I'm looking at:
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5920G-302G25Hi_Laptop_LX.AN60X.041/version.asp

I've seen that some users have had problems when using this card for video mixing (in VDJ), whilst others seem to report great results saying it works flawlessly and so on.

So here I'd like to reach some sort of a verdict on this card, obviously subjected to all the relevant laptop specs to.

It would be better if it is GT model, GS is a lot slower. Can you find out does it use DDR2 or DDR3 memory? DDR3 is recommended as the speed of VGA card is better. Video works better on Vista as I know, so it might be ok for VOB's.

read all the threads about the 8000 series from nvida not the best choice no.

im working for year on ACER Aspire 9301 (AMD Nvidia 6100go winxp) plus BCD2000 (midi controller) and no problem on video or audio.

B.D.W all unnecessary hardware and services disabled for performance.

Great to hear it works for you Big Apple , maybe you would consider to purchase Virtual DJ and support its on going development as well as all the other benefits.

Hope to see you with us as a pro user soon :)

I'm using the GT one. It does work really well and very smooth apart from automix, but apparently thats being fixed and its still not sure if its the card or directx10 causing the problem from what i've read.

I just got the 8600gt 512 ram.
I can backcue forever! Woowee!
A great improvment over the 6600gt i'd been using.

Off course, you are 2 generations up now ;)

Thanks for the responses so far.

I tried outtputting VOBs onto my LCD screen (at 800x600 res) and the quality seems fantastic, did a bit of mixing and it appears to be smooth.

What makes this funny, the system I'm using only has an intel integrated card (shared memory), but the main thing is that I have a decent dual core and 2gb of ram, seems a high spec 3D card is not needed for everyone.

does anybody know of any video card higher than a 7300gt that comes in a half height version? I know most of the new cards seem to be getting bigger instead of smaller, but I thought maybe by now someone may have come out with the 7600gt or 7900gt in half height since they have reduced them small enough to put on laptop motherboards.
