Topic: country music video night

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I have a club that wants to do a country night on Sundays and asked about videos.

Is any of you doing video on a country night?

Is it really necessary to have Country music videos if folk are line dancing?

What do you sagest and what do you do at your club?

I understand Tayla but if I can put up with karaoke singing for the last 7 years, country can't be that bad.

know what you mean, karaoke jeez i feel for you did karaoke for years and loved it and hated it, one bank holiday came to the end of the line for me so pi$$ed off at this bar, all the drunks, same songs, same shit, same fighting, went in at 2pm by 7pm had sold that show to the landlord other six shows sold them to my operators and never had a headache since, kept the discos going but sure glad i got pi$$ed off that day

we started running video even before we had VDJ in the booth using Promo Only DVD's and 4 DVD/VCR combo players. when we brought in VDJ and started running video with the software, we generally used it for the opening hours - 8pm-10pm - mostly cause no one really gave a hoot if there was anything on the screens when there were no sporting events. using it in the prime time hours was just a distraction - and if they're not out dancing, the perception is that the dj doesnt know how to play music to get people dancing, especially with a dance floor as big as ours.
we havent been playing video lately, but are most likely going to start again now that football season is over. i dont particularly want to. there just are not enough videos of the type i need to be playing. too many videos with "story lines" that just kill the flow of the dance floor: cant play the ones with breaks in them. and unless you want to find and order custom DVD's with the individual videos .. well good luck with that.

only one other club around here has even tried to play videos but they suck at it - recorded dirty lyrics over clean dance videos and recorded regular album versions over country videos - gave me a headache to try and watch for any length of time.

so if you want my bottom line advice about country videos.. discourage it. and if you absolulty must - make them pay for the subscription(s) and then rip them to your hard drive as soon as you get them.

Funny stuff.

Howdy!

That's why I have a beer drinking in my contract!

Country Video lessons learned...

Rule #1: Drink beer!

Rule #2: Don't play tear in my beer crap... no one will dance to dogs dying and break up songs! Play a pair of slow songs (non-tear in my beer) then go back to something upbeat. Do this no more than twice a night... unless a babe requests it.

Rule #3: Play upbeat songs with lots of hot chicks! Believe it or not, there is alot of good T&A in country video's. The girls don't care and the guys that don't dance will watch. See Trace Adkin's "Honkytonk Badonkydonk" as a reference.

Rule #4: Drink more beer!

Rule #5: Don't have to play country all night to line dance. Yee Ha! Country peeps will line dance to Cha Cha, Electric, Cupid Shuffle, I Like The Way You Move and others.

Rule #6: Stay with the standards and add new music gradually... some of these guys have to practice their line dance (Yeah... really!) and they get flustered if they have to try new stuff all night.

Rule #7: Don't stress beat matching, just keep a general flow through the night.

Rule #8: Drink beer, get paid...

Please let me know if you would like a typical playlist.

Play lists. oh yes!!!! post them please.

Were do you get your Country Videos from?

Paul,

I get my country videos from promoonly and also amazon. Promoonly has been really weak last few months with their monthly series. Discussed this with them and it appears that there are some problems with Warner Brothers & Sony (Major country distributers) right now. If you buy their Best Of Country Series vol 1-4, it would be a great way to start.

Some of the standard songs I play do not have video, so I use visuals or messages instead. Example... Sweet Home Alabama never had a good video.

I will send you a set list a little later... time for dinner!

Thank again. I've heard nothing but bad thing about promo Only. I used to get the CD series and it's to bad they didn't follow the VCD's with the same. I'll look into the best of though. at least you can see what your buying.

TM Century http://www.jonestm.com/viddisc.asp also has music videos.. just costs more generally than Promo Only, but some people think they have a better selection. also some issues occasionally with video quality, but that happens with either.

question - how big a venue is this, and how big is the dance floor?

Paul,

I will send you an updated list of all the stuff I play this Saturday... I don't use pre made play list anymore and I earased my previous history.

Promoonly has generally been good and the service has been excellent (despite a lack of quality video releases). I looked at a few other services and they all are generally the same if not a little more expensive.

wildcountryclub (Texan right?) makes some good points... your location, size of club, etc. etc. are important considerations.

Texan?.. what gave it away?

the day someone starts a video download service that we can pick and choose from i will be doing a big happy dance. and that lack of quality video releases from promo only is getting on my nerves. i play, on the average, 1 ballad in a 30 minute set. and most of the dvd's i've gotten lately have waaay too many of those. our crowd complains if i'm playing slower country other than that one ballad. when we say "wild country", we do mean WILD.

now if you'll excuse me.. i gotta go upload pics from last nights concert... Tracy Lawrence and a over-capacity really big turn-out.

Wildcountryclub dude... you made a response to the San Antonio post... (Sounded like I was really a genius though!)

You are right... slow crap is abundant on PO. My crowd would get a noose ready if I played a slow song every 30 minutes... The most I will play in a night is 4. Crazy huh?

What is up with all these 70's and 80's pop artists now becoming instant country? Bon Jovi, James Taylor, Robert Plant, Sheryl Crow, Billiy Idol and now I hear Huey Lewis next month? Come On!!! Just more crap I can't play.

If your in the Ft. Hood area, I will be up there this summer and I will stop in. I have quite a few friends up there.
