This function is not available (yet) because the genre is written in the ID3tag.
At present you can only write genre in the track name or in a comment, or by subdivising directories.

I can't find the post that directed me to the easy to use software MP3/Tag Studio software that converts existing ID3 tags to extended file names that allow you to search for any tags you chose to include. Its freeware. Its easy to use.
Still think Virtual DJ should have ID3 functionality - speaking as someone contemplating buying the software. It would seal the deal!

VDJ has a option to read the ID3 tag. There are also a couple of plugins that are usable for Id3 tag reading.
