If anyone cares...
Downloaded the Vista SP1 last week and to my surprise, my Dell laptop (test vehicle and very large paperweight) has been running quite smoothly, even with 5.0v7... it has not even flinched (I use 4.3 on my gig machine because it has been reliable). Going to torture test a little bit longer before updating my gig machine with the SP1.
I am not 100% convinced yet that Microsoft has fixed all the problems, but I am feeling better now.
Also, to my surprise, I was able to finally download a Vista 32 bit Nvidia driver for my video card (Geoforce Go 7900 GS) through Microsoft.
I had to switch to Vista with a generic driver for this card to get Cue to work smoothly with this laptop last year... I know, weird.

Sounds promising! I've got vista on my gig machine and at the moment I'm trying to work out if I should upgrade to sp1 or not. It runs fine at the moment, but obviously the smoother it runs the better. I just don't want to accidentally break something!

Mine works great too on vista SP1, but check this, I had to get rid of the OS that came with my laptop. yup, reformated and patched up SP1. not a glitch.

I agree, I installed SP1 Vista on many PC's and all are working very well.

Just installed SP1 and Vista now recognise my full 4GB of RAM, so thats another bonus.

Yes, SP1 now can see 4Gb of ram, too bad that XP SP3 can't see more than 3Gb :(

Just out of interest, does SP1 just show the extra GB when 4 is installed, or does it actually make use of it? If I look in task manager under performance, it still only shows 3GB. Is the change just cosmetic?

cosmetic. It shows up, but it's not used... :-(

Is that like when the hooker shows up, but you can't get it up??

Something like that :)
Not sure, but I think that it uses 4Gb.

nope, it does not...

Will the hardware use what isn't used by Vista? Toshiba once told me my graphics card would use what vista doesn't.

No need to be miffed. If it worked before SP1 and it crashed after SP1, there's probably a chance it is SP1 lol

LOL. Not blaming VDJ. We are the best of pals these days. business is doing very well 6 gigs a week. May be some one could advise me. I am looking for Scissor hinges which fit on to my gig rig so that it will enable the shelf to move back and forth over the mixer, any ideas please.

You might want to try Nivida's new 174.XX beta drivers there a major bug fixes and reports on various computer forums how much better the new beta drivers are.

I've read this driver is still unstable and the card a couple of degrees hotter when idle, so as always its at your own risk :)
