I can find these items online much cheaper than the MSRP but it seems the price is too good to be true.
There is no place local to look at the gear, only Pyle car audio equipment available locally.

TDBennett: While I am a dealer for Pyle Pro and a user as well I have to be honest with you. You will get what you pay for. It all depends on what you are trying to do with them.
We use 20 of the plastic molded 15in cabinets. We pulled the tweeters out and for $14ea we ordered the ADJ tweeter that goes in the same cabinet. The woofers are the same but the tweeters suck. The crossovers in them are also the same.
On a different note we ordered a few others cabinets for bolling alleys that leave MUCH to be desired. Look for efficiency and match the speaker to the amp and size of the room you are doing.
We do not slack on the subs though. We have Turbosound TXD218's and 118's.

I have a great deal of respect for you, Paulie. Straight, honest feedback. I don't own these speakers, and there is a reason why. Just as you've said, You get what you pay for. Again, I applaud you for your honesty.

If you want good sounding cheapo speakers, Kustom seems to be the way to go. I've got a small Kustom PA with kpc 10" cabs and with a little EQ they sound great, well defined both in highs and lows. Had it & two Kustom km4 mics for a couple years now & all of it's still sounding great;^]

Pyle Pro is a cheap brand. If you want good speakers that are being compared to JBL, yamaha, mackie.... Go To www.Carvin.Com
I have a pair of speakers with 15 inch woofers. Before i bought the carvins, i had a pair of JBL eon 1500s. The carvins sound alot better and have more bass. I am thinking about getting another pair. The new ones are lighter at 31 pounds and push 475 watts RMS. The pair is 479.00 You can buy them in a pair package to save money because each one is 299....... if you want a nice subwoofer that is louder than the JBL mpros... Check out the carvin subs. 800 watts rms in 4 ohms. Thats loud for a single 18inch sub. the average sub with a 18 inch wqoofer is around 400 watts RMS to 600. You will save money and get something really good that will last you.

Thanks to all of you, especially Paulie for an honest assessment of a product that he sells. That's very admirable.
Like most of you, I'm on a budget and your input is greatly appreciated. Fortunately, DJ'in is not my primary source of income.
VDJ is a great product but this forum is the greatest value that I've found since starting this learning process.
If I get some Kustoms I'm gonna find some old "tuck and rolls", maybe purple. LOL (not really)
Pyle is definitely off the list.
How many of you kids are using powered mixers, like the Soundcraft gigrac or the yamaha emx series?

lol.. Those tuck & roll systems would look pretty sweet if the weren't mono heads. Of course my current Kustom head (kmp4080) is bridged mono only, but it was only $200 for the whole package (mixer/ amp head, cabs & km4 mics). Don't get me wrong, Kustom products won't compare to Mackie, Yamaha, Carvin, JBL, etc etc, but for a DJ on a really tight budget they fit the bill nicely. I want to upgrade to their KPS 15" cabs, under $100 each but their peak program is only a couple hundred watts I think. Another drawback is that input is 1/4" only, no speakon or banana plug, but adapters aren't that expensive. When you've got the money to spend, I'd recommend Carvin, Mackie, JBL or Yamaha, but for tight budgets like mine Kustom is the only brand I'll even consider;^]

I don't work alot, just small parties and an occasional bar gig. The bars generally have their own sound system so I just plug in. But house parties are costing me because I have to rent an amp and speakers from another DJ or a rental company. Making money is not my main goal but I don't want to cut my $ in half because I don't own enough gear. But as many have said, do you ever have "enough" gear.

This is the same system I'm using without the mics. Used it for weddings and dances, for house parties it's all you need and has a cd input on the back for bridged mono. I turn the bass all the way up & set the mids & highs one notch above half way, with this setting the sound is excellent. There were a few more auctions for this system on ebay as well. For the money it can't be beat;^]

you will NEVER have enough gear. if your like me you will alway want MORE!! hahaha
you have to look to yourself and say this is the largest size event I want to do.
and prepare your self for it. if you get a larger event... RENT!!!
if your going to only do small gigs... get powered speakers.... 2x JBL Eon G2s will go a long way and can be very affordable if you get them used. (have a spare)
I have enough to power a small club but I bearly use it; business will pick up again as it gets warmer but you have to set a limit for yourself.
I have reached mine.. but now I am starting to buy extra stuff like wireless mics and mixers and just crap I don't need but it make you sound a little better and I just can't fight it.... ahhhhh I am a pro audio junky!!! and I admit it.
Thanks,
DJ SMG

Your looking to buy cheap gear! why don't you look on ebay and buy something decent?
geposted Wed 09 Apr 08 @ 1:59 pm
I'm checking ebay, that is actually where I first saw the Pyle's I initially was asking for comments about.
ebay isn't what it used to be. Seems like a pawn shop sometimes, asking near retail for used gear and also all the crap gear listed.
That's why I asked for help on the Pyles. I know JBL, and Yamaha and the other industry leaders but the price still gets up there on ebay for good gear. When I spend that much money I want to buy it new and have a warranty and a local store to go bitch to when need be.
Plus, wisenhiemer, you don't seem to have any suggestions. ;-)

Looking to buy something on a budget is not good. You will not get what you really want and you will spend more money in the long run. Instead of looking at EBAY, why dont you check out Craigslist.com this is the hottest website for just about anything. Are you i NY TD bennet ?

I know what you mean, Cal, that's why I keep waiting. I'm torn, get something now on the cheap or wait and get some good gear. It's the ole catch 22, I can't make any money cuz I don't got the gear, can't get the gear cuz I ain't got no money. I can only spend money that I make gigin on gear to gig. (that comes straight from the wife) But I gotta buy beer too.
I'm in Little Rock, Arkansas. Craigslist just doesn't have much here. I can roll over to Memphis, 2 hours away, usually good listings in that area. Musical city, lots of gear round there.

The Behringers have been on my list of possibilities. Price is right and I've read good reviews. I really dig the B52 Matrix 1000 V2 as well, but that purchase would be down the road a little. The local Guitar Center had a floor model of the Matrix for $620, I almost bit the bullet then, normally $800 to $850 I think.
Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Keep it coming with the suggestions.

TDB: If you are interested in a Matrix system watch eBay or some of the other dj sites for someone selling the 2000. I used to have 4 of those and had them all wireless. They would BANG! I absolutely loved them and B52 support is second to none! I sold all of mine for $800ea. That would definitely be a way you could go if you have the room for them and a good back.
As long as you find a decent speaker with a good efficient tweeter you could buy it. The Pyle's used to be the way but they changed the tweeter and they went to hell fast. You will need to have a sub if you go this route though. Also a crossover and two amps. This is a bit more expensive way to go but the sound is great. You will only be using the tops for midrange due to having a sub so that is why you can save money a bit.
If you are looking to spend the money one time however and have them work for you for a long time and get your money back a few times set your budget a bit higher. Look at a QSC PLX 3402 (yeah I know but I have 8 and you can never have too much power) and a nice set of EV's or Carvin or even some Yamahaahahahaa (that's a funny DJ Speaka). You will be able to dive the cabinets as you need and have plenty of power to spare and get a really nice deep sound out of them.
Personally...on a budget...B52 Matrix 2000 BABY!
