I do both mobile & club. Right now my main gig is on Fridays in a club where I roll in my mobile equipment.
Saturdays are reserved for private parties. They pay better.
Although this club does pays well, it's about 3x what guys are making around here walking in with laptops and plugging into a house system.
I don't mind mobile work at all. It's good exercise. And I get to play on my own stuff which is better equipment than most any club around here anyway.

Why is there no "mobile DJ" option in the VDJ profile?
I've said this before, it would be good to have this in your aviator.
I am a mobile DJ primarily these days.

my main business is the wedding business. i play clubs and bars on the weekdays and weddings and corporate/private parties on the weekends

I do both and used to do a lot more club. But now I only do Club on Thursday. All my weekends are Weddings or private/corporate parties. The club scene can get same old same old. Especially if there are regular patrons. But had a great time doing it. Mobile pays way better and with better hour. I am usually packed up and home one hour after I would have "started" at the club. And with 4x the pay!

Most of my gigs are private parties, sometimes a wedding.
Since many years using VDJ with success. Now only do video gigs, more fun and VDJ is perfect for this job.

2 days a week I do go-go = VDJ both audio and video
2 nights a week I have a trivia night (separate locations) = VDJ both Audio and Video
Fri and Saturdays are reserved for mobiles anywhere from 2-6 parties a month = Audio primarily
Sundays I'll work if Im hungry or the money is really good; other than I try to keep Sunday for myself
I was doing clubs up until earlier this year...I don't know what it is with that side of the industry/business but my heart isn't into it anymore. Maybe the right format would suck me back in.

I DJ about 90% of the time in bars and clubs. The other 10% I do mobile, mainly corporate events and some school function proms, banquets, dances, etc.
I might add, that since I do mainly corporate events on the mobile side. I probably do the majority of my mobile gigs in late Nov. and thru Dec. And doing school function in April to about bout early June. Other than that I am pretty much not doing mobile work.

I am new to the whole DJ thing. So far I have done 1 birthday party which led to playing at a bar, The bar gig went so well that I am playing there once a month. The only problem with the bar is that its small ( Only holds about 70 People ) So I don't get paid much mostly play for free food and a few drinks. But I figure that I love to do it and it gets me practice in a live crowd which is great. I have played there 4 times and people love it so I might start to ask for a few bucks soon. I played the bar this past Saturday and a couple asked me to DJ their wedding. I have never done a wedding before but would like to get some experience. They asked me a price and I told them I didn't know cause I have never done a wedding before. They loved my setup and music so much that they said I would be perfect. She gave me her number and said to call her. So my questions are what would I charge them. They want me to play from 6pm to 1am and they want me to bring my smoke machine and lights. and my second question for all of the Mobile wedding DJ's is where do you get all your music from. I have over 1000 songs that I have purchased off of iTunes and have transferred from CD's I own to my VDJ library. And I have a premium membership on VDJ. Does anyone have another good way to get music for weddings and other mobile gigs.
Thanks
Thanks

I use promoonly.com i subscribe to the mainstream radio versions because u need clean music not all the cuss words junk and weddings are a challenge because u have to play all different types of music because the is always alot of difderent races at a wedding

Promo Only is good. So is RPM (TOPHITS MUSIC) Ive been with them for about 19 years. XMix.com is good too, for 70 a month you can get the platinum series and have just about everything you need, including video. you just drag and drop the files right onto your drive you use for gigs.
be careful about the smoke machine, some venues do not let you use them so you may want to check first.
also weddings are no easy task, especially being a newb, remember this is a VERY BIG day for most people. there is plenty of info out there, so do your research cause some of it is crap.
good luck!
