Check this out. The DJ for Snoop Dogg is not using vinyl, He's using CDJ's to scratch it up.

ANd the Digital Vinyl scratch sound Effect from VDJ timecoded vinyls are any different from the CDJ's?

Its not the Cdjs that are sounding digitized, Its the whole recording that sounds like that
Cdjs are second best to the technics 1200s when it comes to scratching

Ummm Digital.........
We use MP3's - Digital
You guys use Timecodes - Digital
The DJ in the Video in a live performance is using CDJ's and ...... It's Digital.
Plus Snoop is using a Voice box - a DIGITAL effect from the late 70's early 80's
I don"t get you guys. I really don't; I put a vid on here cause I thought it is different to see a DJ using CDJ turntables well and you guys are complaining about a digital sound coming from a digital source?
Care to upload an example of a digital source that does not sound digital?

That DJ looked to be using 3 decks...
Maybe the 3rd one was used for some kind of a backing music track?
But it looked like he was using some timecodes with a computer and probably Serato...
But I agree that sounded very digital to me too!
The ones I have don't sound that Digital to me though...
May of been due to the timecodes and the computer the DJ was using?
IMHO that song does not need any scratching in it...
But Snoop Dogg sounded pretty good...
DJ TAO :)

But listen to it dosent even go with the music you can hear him pulling the record back as hes trying to close the fader. I use timecodes and noway does it sound like that and im sure most will agree. You have to be deaf if cant hear it sounds like complete crap (sounds like that f up technics cd player that was youtube with digital scratching) and he using the wrong sample for this kind of song too. Ruin a good song imho.

DO a search on cdj scracth routines... you will find some pretty tight sounding stuff.
I really don't think he was trying to get super nasty on the scratches, it was the Ellen show for goodness sakes, her audience would not have known good from bad scratches.
I still think turntables offer the best control, hands on. Touch sensitive platters and few motorized decks being #2.

I know we're all about the video and the scratch capabilities ... but did you see Snoop was standing behind a PVC designed, silk looking, art covered canvases, in a pipe and drape facade.
I only mention this because on another DJ Chat board that I frequent there has been a lot of discussions about facades and the building materials that pros would use.
BTW most often these type of "live" performances are using backing tracks. That third deck could be where all the music is (actually) coming from ...LOL

Those have been around for years, THe lastest and greats from American Dj is to use LED squares in a fold out thing that you can make into a dancing EQ meter.

Hehe... I never stopped using those boxes! Maybe I'm the only reason they still make pygmy bulbs.... ;-)

Snoop needs to upgrade to the R3. I love mine jack!
That guy was NOT that great. I am sure he is just a friend that can play a few samples.

How great does he have to be for the Ellen show? Hell, look what the resident dj does - nothing but play a 30 secong at the begining and some filler during the commercials....

That's for sure...and I remember when she was looking. I did not submit for it as I don't want to move to Cali. If I remember right it was decent 6 digit income.

I would assume he'd be for commercial entertainment - like the Saturday Night Live band.
