Topic: Setting up Video (in a club)

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

I feel I have enough videos and experience now, I wish to introduce it at some of the places I play.

How would I go about connecting up to the screens from the DJ booth? For my home set-up I'm using the S-video output to the S-video input on my LCD TV, also are there any recommended settings to use? Such as screen resolution etc.

It all depends on what the club is using as a switcher. My clubs matrix switcher(any input, onto any output), has bnc connections. So I have s-video out of the machine, a s-video to RCA adapter, RCA cable to a RCA to bnc adapter, to the matrix. However, I carry my own switcher and distribution amplifiers with me, so I can hook up to what ever a particular club has. A lot of older clubs do not have matrix switchers, but inputs going directly to outputs, (cable box 1, goes to TV 1). I show the videos the way they are, some are wide screen and some are not. I think the customers understand the way it is. I have never had a complaint. Now, some screens are shit, and there\'s not much you can do about that. I have 10 27 inch tubes, 2 50 inch plasmas, 2 10 foot digital projectors, and 1 10 foot CRT projector. I have to change the plasmas, but don\'t use them that much. For my mobile rig, I have 2 37 inch LCD, and a digital projector. I want my stuff to look it\'s best, but remember I am not playing to a room full of audio/visual technicians, with color meters. Don't forget extention cables.

Thanks guys,

The venues I'm thinking of are places that have screens, but don't control them from behind the DJ booth (at least I don't think), they don't have VJ's, they just play music video DVDs, so I'd guess this is controlled from behind the bar.

Really what I'm looking for is the best way to get my output onto the screens, even if the switch box (or whatever they use to link the screens) is 10m away from the booth.

if you can find out where each a/v selector is in situ and what type of connection is needed and where possible install the cable with the venues permission on a permanent basis so each time you arrive there its a simple matter of hooking your lappy up, for the cost of these cables which are pennies really, its well worth the initial effort... thats what i do

for a long run, use BNC cable (no matter what conversions you do really to get it to a RCA/BNC adapter) but use that one cable run to go from your dj booth to the matrix or switcher. I would reccomend using s-video or VGA with a (good) scan converter as the output of your laptop and doing as few adapters/switches/etc on your end. the quicker and more directly the video gets to your screens, the better.

I just use a simple XLR cable run. Here's what I do:

I have an external video card that I bought some time ago at Comp USA, but it's now out of business. It's called the Avermedia Quick Play (http://www.aver.com/ppd/quickplay.html). It connects to the VGA port and 1 USB port on my laptop, and has RGB, a Component and an S-Video output on the card.

Then I use an RCA to XLR adapter at the card. (Plug the RCA into the Component Video on the card) then run XLR to wherever you need to go. Use another RCA/XLR adapter at the other end, plugging the RCA into the projector, television, or whatever.

Quality seems pretty good, and it has worked well for me.

Hope it helps...

Ok, I never got this going (too busy), but I'm at pushing forward with this within the next few weeks.

Would it be worth buying a 10m S-video > S-video cable? I'd be right to assume a circuit of LCD/Plasma screens would have an S-video input?

that's going to depend on the venue's screens i think. our sports bar has 8 plasma's and 4 projectors all set up for HD and everything is routed through a video switcher specifically designed for HD input/output. i had to go deal with that thing (a royal headache!) a few weeks ago and dont remember seeing any s-video inputs. they'd probably have to buy some kind of converter for it.
you're gonna find different setups depending on where you end up playing. some will have RCA, s-video, co-ax, hdmi, or who knows what. and bring your tylenol... just in case.

Why are we trying to re-invent the wheel? All you have to do, is go there, look at what they have, and come back with definitive answers. Why are we even discussing bnc, when they may not even be in the picture. What ever they have, I am sure one of us has seen it, and can help you. Do not buy any cable, until you know what you have to work with.

yah forgot about that.. make them buy the cable if they want it that bad. they probably wont.. but it's worth a shot.
