Topic: Virtual Memory in XP

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

Currently playing a lot of video;

Read about Virtual memory in XP and how it may be beneficial to increase it .... wondering if it is something I need to concern myself with.

Does VDJ use the Virtual Memory Paging File or does it just rely on RAM and the video card's on-board memory?

Thanks

Virual memory is used by the OS, never directly by a specific program. Specifying a large amount of vm in the advanced performance page will better performance in general because the system does not have to worry about resizing when it runs out of it. However, the diference in performance is not noticable unless you have some kind of benchmark to run. In any case, this is something recomended to someone who does not have much RAM installed. Your best bet is to just add as much actual RAM as your system can take. Keep in mind that even tough some systems will take up to 4GB of RAM, or maybe more, the system will only see 3GB (more or less) because of the 32bit thing, so don't waste your money unless you are runing Windows 64bit version.

This is a good site www.crucial.com

It has a free scan test you can run, it will try you how much ram you have installed, How much your system can take, and of what type is suitable for you to upgrade to.

Thanks for the info;

I have AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core with 2GB of RAM - Thinking of just setting mine to "System managed size" and let the OS manage it as needed.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

That would be just fine; and you do have planty of memory as it is so it may not even get to use it much if you don't have any other programas running while using VDJ

If you just use audio, you can disable Virtual memory on XP. If you use Vista, fix amounts to 2Gb, start and end, do not use System managed size as it can slow down your PC in the middle of the gig (because Windows must map some amount of space on the hard disk, which you can feel by system slowdown).
