Its a Maxtor One Touch 4 should have done my homework before I bought it.
Do You think I can take it to a computer guy and see if he can get my music out.

oh crap, hope you got back up files, sounds a bit like mine when that dumped on me it also died the death, you could try and put the hd in another driver to see if that brings it back to life, other than that you may be like me i'm still re doing file information nearly two month down the line so best of luck mate

You probably don't need to......any data on drives is usually retrievable and its actually quite fun to do....the software will cost you if you don't have 'means' to get it but its definitely worth it since you probably have a lot of stuff on ur external, and incase it happens again.
There r cheap tools like dead disc doctor and more expensive ones like what geek squad guys use like GetDataBack from runtime........any of these should work, just follow the instructions carefully.
As for the database in vdj, I don't know if the info will be intact but once you're done, let us know coz I think this is something they can look into.....with the file path changes and so on...Yeah so that will or won't cost you a few dollars but its well worth it!
I've used quite a few external harddrives and haven't come across one that didn't start choking after a lot of use, bad heads and all kinds of non-sense....and obviously you can't attempt to use it again incase shit hits the fan.....again..

I have one of theses Drives (80gig), which has all my House and Dance music on for my Friday night gig, had it for about a year now and it's been good to me so far, with no problems (touch wood).
It only gets used for about 6 hours a week, 5 hours for the gig and a hour or so, whilst moving files on it and general "House keeping" It gets back up every couple of weeks to.

What country do you live in? We have the means to recover lost data from a damaged drive. Its £99 for that service and you have to supply us with a drive big enough to transfer the data too.
We can also send the drive away and its completely stripped down and taken apart to remove the data, but this costs £700!! It all depends how valuable the files on the drive are. Obviously if you have £3000 of videos on the drive and no back up, its an option.
If you need more info, just PM me.

If you are running Window's XP and you can see the drive under MY COMPUTER try to do a CHECK DISK and then make sure both boxes are checked and let it do its thing.
Once done it may reclaim the data but name the file as something like:
1EDDF0D9844D8F94906798C9C5534F18 and just read as "File"
Then you'll have to go back and rename all those "File" to ".MP3" and usually the TAGS will still be there and then you can use any tag editor to rename the file names from the TAG, etc...
Good Luck,
DJ TAO :)

Make your own. Buy a WD, the bigger ther better. Put it in one of these, and don't look back.

Try this program:
R-Studio
http://www.data-recovery-software.net/
I have used it in the past with excellent results. It will recover your data as long as windows can still see the disk. It costs 80.00 though.
