Topic: Configuring Timecode CDs Within Configuration - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

Eeesh, this one's got me.

I'm running:

(1) Pioneer CDJ-800MKII
(1) Pioneer CDJ-800MKI

I have Virtual DJ Timecoded CDs in both decks, but when I grab a track and put on each deck within the program...I can see that the wave file is bouncing forward and backward.

I went into the Config of Virtual DJ and clicked on "Auto-Config" for both Timecoded CDs for my decks...but that still doesn't resolve the issue.

Also, I can see that the Timecode Quality for both decks are at 0%.

How can I get these decks to calibrate with the Timecoded CDs by Virtual DJ?

Thank you.

What kind of sound card are you using? Also what version of VDJ are you using?

I'm running Virtual DJ v5.0 and my sound card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X600.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

thats your graphic card ;)

The pioneer decks have real loud output, so first of all make sure you have the PRO grade timecode cd
http://www.virtualdj.com/products/timecode/cd.html

Secondly, you need a soundcard with STEREO inputs, for each CDJ to VDJ

Select timecode as input in VDJ.
And repress auto config, if you have downloaded a new timecode cd

Did that help?

Thank you...

What I'm attempting to do is try out the Virtual DJ software before I make the dive into purchasing it.

I'm currently running Rane Serato Scratch Live on my main system and I'm building a second system. The second system I'd like to run Virtual DJ on....if I can get a good feel for it.

So, I have my laptop hooked up into my Rane SSL hardware box. There should be no issue with the soundcard as it's running the signal through the hardware box....or am I wrong?

I'm not sure what my graphics card has to do with the audio signal....?

Thank you again for your help and hopefully I can get this booger up and running so I can get a good test run on it.

Oh, and yes I am running the Pro Timecode.

What timecode engine have you selected at the drop down box?

And if you could post an image of the screen, it would be nice:)
can host such an image easily at http://www.tinypic.com and post it here

If you are also using SSL vinyls, you need to choose the noisemap timecode engine

Thank you...

"Inputs:" Timecodes
"Output:" External Mixer (I'm running into my Pioneer DJM-3000 from my SSL hardware box)
"Sound cards:" SL-1

I'm not running any vinyl with this setup. All on CDs with Timecoded Pro from Virtual DJ.

all good above there..

But the crutial part is inside the timecode config, where you see the timecode waveform etc.

Pressing auto config, should give you two nice waves in phase to eachother, one slightly infront of the other, red and blue.
Or a clean circle. Depending on what view you choose.

also, try the Vdj 4 engine, and see if its better.

Try this :
- VDJ 4 engine
- Clear sound OFF
- Pitch sensitivity 500ms
- Choose smart mode
- If your CDJs are in vinyl mode (and this is best), also choose VINYL at timecode setting, BUT turn Anti Skip OFF

Getting closer?
Should work fine, CDJs plus VDJ is heaven.. I use it all the time (but dont have the SSL box though)

Appreciate your patience with me here as we attempt to get this right. ;)

Going into the "Time-coded Vinyl Configuration". I cannot select any other Left or Right engine other than VDJ Default Engine. There is also some radio buttons below it reading "Vinyl" "CD", I'm assuming this is where you want me to select the radio button titled "Vinyl"? I have it selected.

Speed: 33RPM
Mode: Smart
Lead Time: 500ms
Pitch Sensitivity: 500ms
Anti Skip - Off
Clear Sound - Off
Smart Cut - Off
Browser Track - Off

Signal - VDJ Timecode
Software RIAA pream - Off
Invert stereo - Off
Invert phase - Off

I'm still getting the same results.

everything seems right there, except maybe the engine.. or signal really. By bad, its signal drop down..

Let me make a screenshot real quick :)

Try both signals as shown in the picture below.. :)
(the signal NOT shown below, are PCDJ and noisemap for SSL vinyls, so neither of them will work with VDJ timecode cd)

I don't know how you managed to get your image to display....?

At any rate, I don't have the option in "Signal:" either. The only option I have to choose from is VDJ Timecode.

Oh, you dont have same version as me, so you dont have the signal drop down box, but thats ok ;)

Something is defo very wrong, as your waveforms are totally wonky..

And your gain is set ALL the way UP, it should be low, or even off..
Try adjusting it down manually.

I dont know the SSL box too well, but have you choosen LINE IN , and not phono in?

this is how your wave form SHOULD look like:

I know we are looking at different version here...

I'm not sure what you're refering to as "gain". On my mixer or are you talking about on the VDJ Config? I don't have a "gain" like you are showing in your image. Maybe you're refering to TC Up or TC Down on my screen?

As for my SSL box, I have my RCAs connected to Line Ins. My mixer is set to Line 1 and Line 2 as well and not Phono.

In the Configuration-Box your configuration is currently set to Vinyl, not to CD! If you want to use it with CDJ800s you have to switch to CD in the left engine- and right engine-part of the configuration-window, not Vinyl ;-)!

Depends on what mode he works in ;) I like it better in vinyl mode, with CDJs in vinyl mode too.
But if he wants to use the CDJs in CD mode, he needs to choose the same in VDJ..

anyways, here is the gain part :

Problem seems that your signal is WAY too loud, and distorted.

So turn the gain down, and also make sure there is no such thing as a line/phono switch at the backside of your SSL box.

Yup, the Gain was the issue. ;-)

I'm no longer getting the issue with the wave forms.

However, I have noticed that at times...I lose functionality of the wave from my CDJs. Meaning...I can't cue back up the track or control the position of the wave. Eeesh..not one thing...it's another.

not sure what you mean.

But the timecode have different modes of operations.
If you want it to be die hard CDJs (and I guess you possibly want), choose absolute mode in timecode settings.
That way, it will behave "absolutely" like a CDJ.

If you want software aids, but want to keep a bit of the absolute idea, choose relative mode.

Smart mode, the software overrides the timecode, meaning, that for some features the software rules, and not timecode engine.. Such as if the timecode track runs out, its ignored, and if you press loop or sync in software its done, even if pitch on the CDJ is not moved.. etc.

Aboslute mode might be more "you" :)

If that was what you meant.

If you loose control entirely, make sure you have good clean waves, reading 100% timecode signal.
Adjust the silencer, tc up/down, until you have large cute sexy waves.. ;) Like the picture earlier in thread from me
