Hi all, getting a bit fustrated, my laptop setup console is working fine no probs but i seem to be getting a hissing interferance noise from the line out cable. I have tried it in my laptop sound card port, same prob, same prob from herc mrk2. Tried different inputs on back on av amp ie. cd, dvd, tape deck but to no avail. This was never a issue with this cable when i used it in same av amp with 1210,s berringer and pionerr cdj's, What could the issue be? wrote to a av cable specialist and got this reply,

"Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your reply!

Sadly, the connection you are looking at making is less than ideal.
The phono input to your amplifier is expecting a signal level of about
.7 of a volt. The 3.5mm output from your laptop is actually designed
to feed headphones or a small set of speakers, so the output level is
much higher than .7 volts.

You can usually get away with turning the volume down on the laptop so
it doesn't overload the input of the amplifier, but if you turn it
down too far it starts to sound 'hissy'. Turning the volume up on the
AMPLIFIER doesn't solve this.

The first thing I would check is that you do have a reasonable output
from your laptop - but not TOO highelse it will overload the
amplifier. I would try 'about a third of the way up'. Adjust the
volume on the amplifier to whatever comfortable level you need, and
the overall hiss should be less"

Any work rounds guys???

Could it be a grounding problem?

Try just running your laptop on it's battery, unplug the power cable and see if you get the noise.

LOL, cheer's mate.

Yeah it's quite simple to sort out, you need a Ground loop isolator. If you are in the US try here

If you are in the UK try here

Once it's connected you should be able to run a your power cable with no problem

I'm abit confused mate, Are you using your mk2 as the soundcard or your laptop's soundcard. If you are using your laptop's, why?

You can use the Output 1&2 (the ones with the red and white on them) on the back of the mk2. Then the Ground loop isolator should work.

or just rewire your plug and disconect the ground (green and yellow wire) (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING! AND IT WILL PROBABLY MAKE YOUR WARRENTY INVALID (if u have one)) at least this way its a quick fix for ya ;)

I think this may be something to do with the hrk2 as i have plugged in the 3.5 from laptop to av amp and no hiss just using mediamonkey player and various tunes, also there is no hiss from the earphones from the hrk2 to controller.

It is slightly better when I unplug the power cable using the line 1/2 output on the hrk2, but there is still a definate hiss.

If I turn the laptop soundcard right up and the AV amp down this improves it slightly, but not good enough if I want to crank up the amp.

Thank you.

Is this another set of cables?

On the back of the mk2, you have for 4 RCA inputs and 4 RCA outputs. If you are going straight to your amp, with no mixer involved, then you can use the Ground loop isolator.

Connect the females plugs of the isolator to RCA output 1&2 and the other end of the isolator should plug into a input of your amp.

"Connect the females plugs of the isolator to RCA output 1&2"

I know i,m being dumb here but how can the females plugs on the isolator connect to the mrk2 the 1/2 red n white outputs look like they only take males?

will the quality of the phone cables i buy going via the isolator make big a differnce and also will using the other 2 white and red hrk2 outputs make a big dif rather than the 3.5 output(which is rubish!!), Want to get the best cables so any tips would be great. Getting there slowly and the advice so far has been top notch
Cheers

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ADVICE TO CUT GROUNDS, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING WE DON'T NEED TO BE ADVISING HERE

Yes, by using the RCA outputs, you will found that the sound is louder and alot clearer, also you may not get any interference :)

Ok guys got my phono leads going into the back of herc mixer and and the other 2 going into the back of av amp but gettin no sound at all?
As you look at the back of mixer from left to right i have plugged the phono leads into the 1/2 red white outputs just to the right of the 3/4 red white outputs, is this correct?, maybe i need to alter some software settings can anyone help. Ps i can get sound out of earphones.
thanks again

If you are using, just the mk2 and no mixer, all you need is Outputs 1&2 of the mk2. Run a RCA cable from them 2 outputs straight to the amp.

Then in the mk2 control panel raise both channel sliders to the top, Do you get sound now?

If you are using a external mixer then it's different.
