Topic: Web-site builder advise needed - Page: 1

Dieser Teil des Themas ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten

Since I have 6 weeks of Doctor imposed House Arrest, I've been trying to create a web site for my Mobile Biz.

So I went to Office Depot and bought a 35 dollar web site creation software; which honestly is not as bad as I thought. A complete HTTML-idiot such as myself can whip up an acceptable website fairly quickly.

Question:
My main image of the homepage/subpages are all formated to 1024x768. When I preview the website in firefox the image is alligned to the left and there is a huge gap. on the right side.

If I submit the site to a hosting server, will that be auto-corrected in the final display? Or is that something I Should try and correct now, Before it's sent to the server?

Bear in mind I have ZERO HTTML Coding know-how.

Nothing gets auto-correct, the hosting server is basically just a publicly accessible storage device. What you put
there is there. HTML is too simple not to learn, is just a straightforward code (like BB on a forum), and if you
check this page you'll be easily able to correct this horizontal alignment all by yourself. :)

Just out of curiosity, what is the name of this software you bought?

IMO a website CMS is a good way to go. Drupal is both free, popular, creates valid XHTML and CSS and is well supported. You also have the added benefit that you can update it from anywhere in the world without any special tools, just an internet connection and a web browser.

If you are able to edit the source code in the program you are using, here's an example of an HTML centered image:
<div style="text-align: center"><img src="http://www.google.co.uk/logos/autumn08.gif" alt="Google"></div>

Alternatively:
<center><img src="http://www.google.co.uk/logos/autumn08.gif" alt="Google"></center>

Easy Web Site Creator

It comes with Estore creator as well.

The size of the screen seems to be the determining factor.
if my screen resolution is 1024x 768 the site looks perfect (in preveiw) any larger everything is slammed to the left. The COmpany is in california so it's not open yet. Gonna give the Tech support a call.

Any one out there in the business of web design? My site sucks, and I need someone who knows what they're doing to make a good one for me. I bought Creating Web Sites For Dummies, and apparently I dumber than a dummy. If anyone is interested, post or PM me. Of course, I expect to pay.

It's not as easy as the commercial software makes it seem is it HiTower?

Hey I'm happy to help! I work in IT and have built several websites plus I have two in development.

My 'simply' site is www.capitalnightlife.com.au and I use WordPress, but I also have considerable experience with Mambo, Joomla CMS systems........

Feel free to drop me an email....info@capitalnightlife.com.au

My names Gray btw :)

Thanks for the offer gary.
I finally got through to the software's developer's Customer support. and they helped me correct the issue.
Within the next day or so I should have it online.

I Hope.

Marcel is this easy to do, to create a website. I've always wanted to do something like this and fill it with all load of rubbish that I find interesting.

But I've been put off how hard it might be.

@Marcel... Definitely not as easy as I thought it would be. I have thrown in the towel and looking for a pro.

I tried a trail Version of Dreamweaver, That software made my Head spin. Definitely not a user friendly software. However I've been told that that is the best software for creating web pages by the guys who do it for a living.

This is has definitely been an eye opener; and an indication that I should take a web design course at night school.

Making a functional and cool website is not that easy ;)

For that you do need a fair bit of knowledge about HTML, CSS and possibly PHP...

If you have no such knowledge, the best way would be getting a "ready to go" CMS and a nice cool free template, and the plugins you might want (gallery etc).

If its a profile webpage, with lotsa content, Joomla is a nice one and free... If its for posting news and updates continously (blog), Wordpress would be good to use.

Not bad mate, for a first go

This will be the final version for now.
I discovered the Flash Creator that was included in the website building software I purchased.

So this is the final (for now) version.

I'm much happier with this version.

hi marcel like the movement etc, except the home page is to grey and uninviting, the second page starts to get a bit more colour into it and looks better, sorry thought i let you know from a clients perspective, hope you don't mind.

Nope there's no offence taken.

I kinda thought that as well, But I've seen some site that are soo busy you can't concentrate.

I might have gone too far the other way :P

as i said the movement is fine and doesn't make the page busy at all, how about experimenting with some other colours, trying a pastel colour instead of grey, mind don't know how much work it would be in changing your base colour...
