Topic: took the plunge... ended up all wet.

Dieses Thema ist veraltet und kann veraltete oder falsche Informationen enthalten.

so i took the plunge on monday afternoon and installed 5. the boss absolutely loved having the SBDJscrolltext plug-in up on the screen, loved the slideshow with the smooth transitioning, and there were great comments from customers.

too good to be true of course...

last night during the hip hop that the little girlies wanted to shake their butts too.. it hung up on us. not even doing anything out of the ordinary. transitioning from one song to the next using brake. as soon as brake got clicked on, it froze solid in a loop. no crash guard either. had to ctrl+alt+delete to stop program while scrambling for a cd and turning cd player on.

4 and a half hours of perfection and then poof. bummer.

spent the rest of the night with crossed fingers and rolaids. and boss man threatening to make me go back to cd's. ewww.

any ideas?

Is everything updated on the the clubs system,

DirectX for example.

sorry to hear about this

how much do you really know about this system ? how well is it maintained ??

over time , i have come to gradually reorient my thinking about this software and also xp based pc's ....

anytime you do an update of your OS , service packs , direct x , etc or change the software config ( in any manner .....new skin/plug in , new efx , change default settings , change sound card ) then put it thru it's paces for an hour or two and really push it hard , find out what it can do , before using it at the club or a mobile gig

in this case it may just be the brake effect , try a brake sample to drop in , instead of the plug in , as a temporary fix ....

can you reproduce this problem just by using the brake ?

how much ram , how many services , processes ?

was the cpu load running high for a bit b4 the hang ?? were you online ??

also , i don't doubt your skills , those are just the routine things i would be looking at if i had to deal with it .........

hope i can help

sounds like it was a plugin glitch, i would stop using brake for the time being.

i have a list in my head of scenarios that are common and how they may rank in terms of difficulty

1) running sonique visuals seems to be more difficult than playing a video ......

2) running soniques on slideshow , seems to be noticeably more cpu ........

3) running text 2d , cube , or titler individually doesn't make much difference , but doing all 3 does .....

4) doing 2 and 3 above pushes my system fairly hard

5) i can still download from beatport or amazon while doing 2 and 3 above

6)if i scan for bpm while doing 2, 3 and 5 above i am near redlining the system

7) scanning for bpm on more than 2 songs while doing 6 above is really pushing yer luck

8) if i am gonna rip a cd , at least take the soniques off of slideshow ,and i'll be ok

9) your mileage may vary ...... doing yer homework , tweaking whatever you can , makes a difference and ........when using "off site " plug ins , that WERE NOT developed internally from within our ultra cool and knowledgeable user community means ..."yer on yer own " to quote the preacher in Blazing Saddles ......

directx updated monday, all updates current, we're using one of the best recommended video cards from the VDJ list that was in the forums, we have 2g ram, and i beat the living hell out of it on monday TRYING to make it crash, hang, or otherwise misbehave. and that was after abusing it at home, putting it through everything i could think off (INCLUDING turning off the A.C. so the computer got hot) and not having a single crash for 2 months. and the computer at home is definitly less capable than the one at work.

monday -
running video and audio
sbdj scrolltext
slideshow on smooth setting
multiple effects - as many as 7 at a time including using brake here and there(wasnt trying to sound good - was trying to make it not work)
multiple video effects besides scrolltext - cube, transitions, sonique, etc.
even on automix

worked perfectly

wednesday -
audio only
sbdj scrolltext
slideshow on smooth
and the brake effect had been used a few times already with no issue.

there do seem to be certain glitches that aren't easily understood

i have one recurring glitch i can't fix , which is whenever i do a double ( back to back 7 hour shifts ) it can't get thru the second shift without a freeze up at somepoint

this one recurs ....when it's about to freeze , the trax just barely load enough to keep playing ..... stopping video and efx makes no difference ,
once i see that happening , i switch to cd for one song , close down the software and then relaunch it

that sounds familiar, just not with VDJ running. long time use of java apps seem to eat up system memory and start slowing things down till you stop using the app and give it a rest for a few.

i don't know how much java if any is involved with VDJ or any of the plug-ins so i can't say for sure if that would have any effect.

At least when vdj crashes on my mac it just closes, not freezes n a loop.

and so we started our friday night with...

4 ( 4 dammit !!!! ) crashes in a row.
apparently if you load a playlist in, start it, then go back to the playlist (set as one of the favorite folders) folder and click on it the software crashes. and only once did i get the crashguard. go figure.
so we tossed a cd in and it was time for the old system restore and rolled everything back. and lo an behold everything works like a charm with 3.4 again.

anyone want to guess how pissed the boss was?

I was thinking about this and was thinking that your might have something from 3.4 hanging around the registry.

Try downloading DJCELLS registy tool and wipe the registry clean after uninstalling v3.4 (make backups of your database etc...)
Then load in whichever version of 5.X you are using. transfer your database.

Also there was a glitch with 5.0 slideshow plugin, and clipbank plugin (if memory serves me correct) which is why SBDJ made his version of the slideshow and text plugins. (I use DJ cell's text2d plugin)

You don't use timecodes, do you use a DMC2? or DAC2?, or DAC3?

if you have time - give that a try.

we don't use any externals. we're doing everything with keyboard and mouse. i know alot of people are really into their controllers, but i am an extreme believer in K.I.S.S. these days = the simpler the better.
we've got yet another concert coming up on thursday so it's gonna be awhile before i can even think about trying the registry tool. that will give me time to get all the system specs copied down somewhere, dig out the external drive we use for a storage, back everything up, and then i have to try and talk the boss into letting me run the update again.

pillow time. gott get a nap in before having to go deal with the rednecks again. later

So how did your trouble shooting go?

not very well.
had some time limitations while i was there, but among other things i re-checked to see that all the drivers, directX, and updates were good, as far as windows goes, there are no physical problems with the machines itself that we know of, and i ran a quick scan for corrupted files, and its been only 2 weeks since the last de-frag. everything fine. except me leaving my thumb drive in the damn thing cause we got in a rush to get out (boss had to leave and he has to re-set alarms, etc.) but all the system specs are on it, so hopefully on weds. night i'll remember it.
