They are designed for games mostly which is a good thing. I suggest to read a few reviews about them.

...and if you can get some DPC check results even better :)

Yes, if you can try it out in shop even on VDJ demo it will be nice ;)

I have a dell xps m1210, i know its been discontinued, but so far has been an excellent machine for VDJ, although i have not really done video a lot. i will run the DPC on it and will post the results here. i can have a friend of mine with the xps m1530 to give it a try as well and let you know

i have a xps m1530, 2.53ghz dual core 512 nnvidia and 4gb drive. i get a couple hits on the dpc but they dont really make any issues. video scratching/mixing is an issue. sometimes the video just freezes--the music plays but the video stops. if i move the scratch wheel the video catches up with the audio... i have spoken about this before, have been in discussions with hercules and they are of no help. i use the xps as my main laptop (running win xp pro sp2) so i cant just reformat and reinstall--i plan to get an alienware laptop sometime in the coming month or two and only devote it to video/audio mixing...

FYI. I had the same problem. Send it back to dell and get the XPS. Running it with full video and no problems at all.

I also called Dell after reading all the posts above and mine is on the way back as well with a full refund coming.

hey there dopeboyz,

what xps model do you have, give the specs on it

Using windows XP with no tweaking, and full video. Running MPEG 2 video, and 320Kb/s MP3.

Controller is a Behringer BCD 3000 which works fine but I am looking for a sound card to do vinyl with. Any questions guys let me know.

Dell right now leases these systems with windows XP so you don't have to screw with Vista. Vista = garbage and might be why Microsoft has started the new OS Microsoft 7.

Sincerely,

Mike

I have a xps m1730 - core 2 duo t8300 2.4ghz 4gb ram nvidia gforce 8700m, with xp pro installed, using hercules mk1, i experienced crackles and stutters in the music played. I have music videos as well. So I figured to install vista ultimate to be able to play videos. I used latest drivers from dell.com.

Problem with music stuttering still randomly occurs, and i get a crackling sound when previewing a song while another plays.

I have completey restored this system and updated drivers and still get occasional stutter and crackle. Any ideas?

I installed the dps latency tracker and i get spikes above 2000 very often, I have not even opened VDJ yet. Not sure what to do next...

This is a top of the line laptop,, why am i having a problem.. thanks for any help...

I had massive problems getting my M1730 to run smoothly (mine is 2.8GHz Extreme and 2x8800's) but I've managed it, and almost eliminated the video freeze.

You disabled the onboard sound card? I also had video driver problems which I seem to have managed to resolve.

Which reminds me, I want to image the machine whilst it's working!!

I've had mine running OK under both XP and Vista now. It wasn't working well under XP initially, and I don't know what I've done different exactly this time. In fact the only difference I can think of is the order I installed the drivers in!

I can get some driver versions, and information on what I've disabled etc... though if you like, but mine is a slightly different hardware configuration with SLi cards etc...

i have a dell xps m1530 and i used to have a lot problem with the sound but i solved today you just have to turn off the powermizer and the wireless internet card when you gonna use you external asio driver card i love it now.

has any one had any bad experience with IBM's

I have no experience with IBM's with VDJ, but I can tell you that my Gateway P172x fx runs video flawlessly. I can do anything I want and video does not miss a beat. I did tweak vista for sound though. I did a lot to the operating system which I have read here and in other forums.

When I use the DPC Latency Checker I get one orange spike once in a while. There is a lot you can do to tweak vista and Xp as well. Take a look at the tweaks in the forum.

I have tried to set my Hercules MK2 asio mode, not sure what are the best settings with asio yet, the crackling has gone away but i still get a stutter when previewing a song while one is played in either deck 1 or 2.

I set msconfig startup to disable all, wtf is wrong with a $3000 laptop? Why is there a stutter when previewing a song? my dpc spikes every 3 to 7 sec above 8000, is there anything I can do to stop this?

Thanks...

@gvmusic,

have you disabled your wifi/bluetooth adaptor in Device manager, also disable your internal modem too. This should stop some of the spikes (hopefully)

Alienware vs. Mac Pro , which is better

This is such a strange problem. I have disabled everything in Device Manager and run msconfig and set startup to only run virtual dj, hercules and video drivers.

I have a small crackle sound barley noticable on output speakers, although I can hear it. I have the hercules dj console mk2 set in asio mode, still trying different settings to find a solution.

Everytime I have one song playing and one song in opposite deck, then try to preview a song, VDJ would stutter or stop about every 5 to 30 seconds during the time I am previewing a song.

DPC latency checker shows a hit from 2000 to 12000 about every 5 to 15 seconds.

I appreciate any help. I just find it hard to believe that a powerful machine like Dell XPS m1730 can't handle some audio, what the heck?
