Ive been searching, but have not found this topic. If you have a link to a thred covering this, please point me in the right direction.
Im reconfiguring my giging rig to replace a small desktop computer that I have been running VDJ ver 3.4 on for the past 3 years. My new rig is going to house a newer DELL laptop running XP. here is what I need to know:
I have invested a LOT of time setting all the cue points, bpm, and comments on my current computer. I know that there is a database with all of that information on my C drive in the VDJ folder. My music is located on my D drive currently. My new system will house all of my music on an external hard drive.. most likely it will be drive E. I know that the database will need to be converted to point to the new drive.
Im planning on making a copy of the existing D drive on my current giging computer, and putting this all onto the external drive.
How do I move the database over to use with the new location of the music??? I also will need to update my 3.4 ver to the current version, do I do this to the existing giging computer, before making a copy of the music library? or just copy the library to the external, load the new current version of VDJ into the laptop and copy the database???
anyways, I hope this makes some sense to someone out there, please send me some info.
Thanks!

I could be wrong since I didn't have verision 3.X originally but, you are probably going to loose all your cue points and BPM when you upgrade to the latest verison. The BPM engine has changed that analyizes the tracks.

if that is the case I will NOT upgrade my VDJ... there has been hundreds of hours invested in my database... can anyone confirm this?

Your VirtualDJ database will be retained when you upgrade. The information contained in it will be imported into a new database used by VDJ v5, including your cue points.
However, the new version will re-scan songs as you load them to obtain additional information such as song key (A new feature in the latest versions.)
Before upgrading, you can always backup your old database (You should do this regularly anyway, along with your music collection too) - For VirtualDJ 3.4, you will find it in C:\Program Files\VirtualDJ
VirtualDJ v5 uses a new database in a different location (My Documents\VirtualDJ), so your old database will remain intact after the upgrade.
Just before installing the latest version, browse to C:\Program Files\VirtualDJ and rename the virtualdj.exe to virtualdj3.exe - This will allow you to optionally still run VDJ 3.4 even after you have upgraded.
