Where do I find what version of dx is installed

ok,,, i'm downloading v7 32 and should be up and going in 3 hrs.. i'll post here on my results thanks for all your help

just been having a conversation with one of the guys and he has asked why are you running just 32 when 64 would be better on a 4gig system

ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz 4 x 512K B L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G10664GK
New vid card
ATI R4890 1gb GDDR5Card discobrian helped me put this together and vista 32 was the proffered bit he said for this hatdware ,, can i use 64... before i started the download it asked for what i was running,, if i can thats fine but this thing takes an hour to download

well all i can comment on is what has been said to me, but if brian had the system running fine and has been changed since that point i would suggest you go back to whatever you had installed and the system you were using.

32 bit was preferred as u couldnt find drivers for your soundcard, is there 64 bit drivers now?

trying to make the install disc sucked. so I'm going to do a fresh install of vist 32..

Any suggestions anyone?

I'm going to take this one step at a time, one update at a time. Each update that came out as of june I'm going to hold off on and c if thing run ok ..

What DX should I start with?

Yes ...

1- Use Xp not vista
2- Be sure that you are installing XP with SP3 included.
3- Don't Install anything else on that PC (just pc drivers ,VDJ & Klite Codec Pack the lastest version)
4- Enjoy...

When You have a chance install the amd processor driver.. the one that fix the problem with the sinchro, and if you can ... buy an Nvidia EVGA 8800GT SC 512 DDR3...

Best regards ;-)

HE CANT USE XP WITH THE GRAPHICS CARD THAT HE HAS!!!! IT WILL NOT WORK AND WILL CAUSE MORE HEADACHES..

i think im going to cry.... i reinstalled vista with only updates until april, vdj5 ,, drivers only from disc. no online updates. freeze. added wmp codecs.. freeze.. updating to vdj6.1, going to update to new dx..

Paul,

Do you any Promoonly original DVD's that you ripped to .Vob yourself?

Paul,

If it is failing again and again... it is not normal and SURE it has a hardware or driver issue.

You can use Windows Vista 32 bits and 4GB of RAM (It works ok). You can use Windows 7 but you need to have Windows 7 drivers too (at least for your video and sound cards).

Sorry, but in your case if I have to search for the issue I will go first on using another video card. Maybe your video is ok, but I am SURE N-Vidia 9600GT with 256MB DDR3 work without problems (with Windows XP & Vista at least).

Paul, you are experience a lot of trouble because something in your hardware cocktail is bad. Can't tell what, but a fresh install will give us that there is no Windows problem. So if you still got problems, there is something else. Try to get another video card for be sure it is not your video card and look in other direction.

Good Luck!

i understand,, thank you,,, it i didnt have so much cash in this pc becouse newer and top of the line hardware would keep me from having issues. but every Nvidia card i ever used even in my laptops don't let you convert the Svid to rca very easly, it's a pain to have to trick the card by having to conect svideo then after the card c the tv switch the conector to rca.. ati will covert the sig to anything. if the dx update don't work i'm going to have to do it discobrians24's way. thats going to be a pain,,, but so isnt all this... sorry brian ,, you r the man, i thought with enough time doing all this would find the fix but there just dosent seem to be one.. i need a big drink and a b52 shot.. thanks for the help everyone.. brian when you have a chance. em me please..

1) What files types do any of you use do you find that freezing accurse?

2) What combination videos type start this problem for you?

3) Will I still have this issue if I run vobs, avi, mpeg, mp4s?

4) What file types work best together?

Tying to add K-lite to VDJ;;;

Discobrian24; KLite thing, you install it and on the filetypes in VDJ you change the codec for that file to Windows Media Player not
VDJ decoder, that is how u use KLite with VDJ.

I did the above but I don't see K-lite in the Codecs for WMP...

Shouldn’t they be there?

If so what do I need to do to add them to WMP?
I look and I'm unable to find a way to do so.

you're all useless as hell. nobody here actually has any clue. i have read all the forums and none of them have any usefull exact info on how to get video recording and get the codecs all lined up. i need to figure this out or im just gonna scrap this program for video all together. its a good idea but the people who are programming this software need to figure something out for the codecs of video and audio recording together. PEEEEEACE

blazinlox,

Maybe you can't find any information because many of it is only for professional or limited edition users. Actually you can record using some codecs for that. Sorry for you you don't get it, but of course we have a clue, and it's available for Pro users at anytime.

First off ... unless you are using the Microsoft Media Player video decoder (selected for a specific file extension type in the Codecs tab) for playing your videos, then there is no reason for loading a codec pack - K-Lite, CCCP, or otherwise ....

As for 'freezing' videos ... there is no specific scenario with any one particular encoding type ...

The issue is down to what video card, O/S, environment settings and drivers you have loaded ... everything from HIGH End cards to inexpensive basic cards can exhibit the issue. Most freezing issues occur with the nVidia chipsets but not limited to them as I have pointed out there are several factors that can play into a 'freeze' issue.

The majority of people use Windows XP and use a DirectX 9 compliant video card that has DDR3 type memory. Also, they are using cards that have 512Mb of RAM dedicated to the GPU of the card. There are people that have Vista (which is a DirectX 10 O/S) that are successfully running video with minimal or ZERO freezing and in the majority of the cases they have loaded the latest DirectX 9 (which can be installed on a Vista environment) but also have tweaked their O/S for exclusive use for DJ'ng.

But again ... codec packs are unnecessary and not even utilized by VirtualDJ unless you are using the Microsoft MediaPlayer video decoder setting. VirtualDJ already has the codecs embedded in the application for use when using the Video Decoder option in the codecs tab.

If you are experiencing freezes ... I would start by taking a look at the encoding format you are using. And, if you are not encoding the videos yourself but using videos from inappropriate sources then you are at the mercy of the person who encoded the files and should not expect the software to properly decode them. If you can afford the space then you should use VOB files for your videos and if you need to compress or encode files to save space ... then you should encode them as MP4s (H.264).

This is why I asked him if he had any ORIGINAL Promoonly DVD's he could rip himself to Vob. Someone indicated he may have taken all his videos with multiple formats and encoded them ALL to vob. (Ouch)

He didn't answer my earlier question.
