DAMN....
Not This vs. That again.

Did everyone NOT read the other 158,672,811 threads already dedicated to the This vs. That issue?!?

I believe in using whatever works for u & your creativity. I DJ, Vj & own a sound company, I also own VDJ, Tracktor Scratch Pro & Serato. I do believe that Serato is the industry standard? Personally I love VDJ & believe its the best to run VIDEO & works well with Midi controllers & players to scratch with. Serato time code is more accurate. Its a personal choice.

Like MJ said when he sang his song, "it's Human Nature" or Brand Loyalty, no doubt this will continue as sure as you will have to go to the bathroom tomorrow, so get use to the aroma....and it's no different in the recording industry where all the music derives from...

Over the years I have bought;

1998 - Virtual TurnTables (VTT)
2002 - PCDJ Blue, PCDJ Red
2004 - PCDJ FX
2005 - Traktor Studio
2006 - Abelton Live
2007 - PCDJ VJ
2008 - VirtualDJ Pro 7

I have used what I considered was the best software available at the time. I used Traktor for 2 years and was very happy with it. I only switched to VirtualDJ for one reason and one reason only - VIDEO

End of story :-)

IMHO there is no 'industry standard'.

Maybe VDJ could make a trade.............fill Serato in on how to do videos the right way, cause there's is junk, and in return they give VDJ access to there timecode engine...........then not only would we hold the power of VDJ script (cause there's NOTHING AS STRONG OUT THERE THEN OUR SCRIPT) but we would also have great responding timecodes aswell.

I'm prepared for the negativity so let have it.........

Serato = Does not read .VOB
Itch = Doesn't do video.
Traktor= Doesn't do video.

I hope they would be an option for me just to try them out, but they are not. I only do video.

Heck they don't even read MP4's right! Lmao!!

+1 Huey

That makes sense to me.

There will always be a trade off. There will never be one software that does everything perfect, never. If you want to wait and see, be my guest. For those of us that don't need time code, we already have the best software for us. I'll bet that some of those that use time-code are happy. Most of the grown ups here don't care what others use. We know what's out there, have tried it, and made a choice. If you think the software you are using , is better, use it. If you want Onstar, you don't go to a Ford dealer.

What would it be like if all technology was supplied by Apple and everyone had to adhere to their restrictive policies. Just be thankful there are competing products.

Atomix are a small company where the man at the top codes the software, has a small amount of loyal staff and makes a lot of money. Far better for the customer than corporations like Apple. I actually think Stef is very clever with his marketing strategy. Bundling VDJ with cheap crap controllers as well as pro level ones may make people think that VDJ is a toy but who sells more licences and makes more money?

I don't give a toss that I'm pretty much the only club DJ in my city using VDJ. It works for me and the customers listening to my set. Traktor & Serato are the safe and politically correct options but not for me.

The truth of the matter is, you really can't compare the two. If you make a comparison, shouldn't both be evenly matched? The features in VDJ are so far ahead of the others, that it is not a fare comparison.

Ok I could give a crap less what the next dj uses. When we throw shows there's always 2 setups, mine with VDJ and another for the Serato/Traktor fanboys. I have used VDJ for almost 5 or 6 years now and it IS THE BEST OUT THERE when it comes to features and MIDI control. On occasion this grown up likes to throw down a scratch every now and then. Since I can remember the timecode has never been solid. I went with a MIDI controller and still can't scratch maybe because I went with a cheaper Numark product like the MixDeck, ill take that. My only gripe is the timecode. And I'm sure there are plenty of people who are fine with it but I'm not. And yes I already know I'm one person so spare me. So why not fix it and just be the best all around?? And yes ill be waiting around..............why cause VDJ is the best out there, except when it comes to timecodes.

Let me have it, lol!!

It's a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, use the tools that make your job easier, more to your liking and don't sweet it dude, "That day will come eventually", all of us have many tools to accomplish are mission, take it in stride, you don't have to hide cause it won't do it,..... just do it cause it needs to be done and use what ever tools it takes to get it done, it's your "Fame" or your "Shame" in the final analyses....

Confort is not always obtainable....

the only thing that the other software have better than VDJ IT'S THE SOUND,sorry but that's the truth

To be honest they are both the same 2 me. I use VDJ & Traktor. I prefer VDJ over traktor only because when using VDJ all of the lights on the mixtrack pro are lit up and they blink when I press them (the partygoers see that & think its cool, so they have a hundred questions about it) whereas with traktor the buttons only light up when I press them & it stays solidly lit. Plus the mixtrack pro just works all around better with VDJ. but the programs are pretty much exactly the same.

I use both Traktor and VDJ. I lean more to VDJ because it's more user friendly to me.

And how is it better?

Sound quality and volume is now largely based on the soundcard and other hardware that is used e.g. You're not going to get the same quality from a maya44 as you would a RME fireface 400, likewise a $100 behringer mixer wont sound as good as a $500 xone mixer and a cheap $600 pa system will pale in comparison to a $3500 rcf system , but the mastertempo is a different matter, it is an algorithm built into the program, this needs work when compared to traktor.

Also while I appreciate that users like sbdj, tex, djcel etc... use their time to create plugins for us to all use for free, IMO the ones I have tried are not on par with traktor, and external vst's have been hit and miss for me, that being said I would not use them in a live situation.

Traktor = production grade sound effect plugins
VDJ = user made sound effect plugins

Everything else in vdj is better, but when you consider a dj's job is to play music, things like video are just a bonus, think about it, no one will care if they cant see a video screen at a party, but they will care if the sound quality is low, That's why I said what i said earlier. I'm not going to blindly say that vdj is the best, it's a high quality professional program, but this is about comparisons to the competition, that being said... It's not the best LOL
