Spot on with the illuminated keyboard. I travel a lot and I needed a netbook, but something powerful enough to handle VDJ. I went with the Alienware M11X (http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m11x-r3/pd) given it's a gamer laptop I figured it could easily handle videos..and it does great. No hiccups. I've doing gigs here at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan and it's been trustworthy.
You may want to consider the M14X or the M18X.
Many options with illuminations of the keyboard, front grills and other areas of the unit. Only downside with the M11X is that it doesn't have a disc drive given its compact size, but the external does me just fine. If you consider one of these laptops, then also consider the Alienware bags. They're great in the sens that you can just unzip and start playing from there. There is a mesh in the bottom of the bag where the vent is located on the computer so that it has breathing room.
Once I settle down finally, I may go with the M18X.
For the controller, hold off until the DJ convention in Atlantic City in August. For additional laptop deals, check out www.techbargains.com

Highly recommend the American Audio VMS2, I have one and it works great for me, I love the fact that it has a built in 4in 4out soundcard, this way can connect turntables/cdjs and use timecodes. The MC6000 doesn't allow you to do that.
Its a controller, and you can use it as a regular mixer should you need it, it works great for me, although some people have had issues...
The Hercules RMX gives you the same features, have one as well and its great. I highly recommend this type of controller for the simple fact that you are a turntableist, and there is no machine available that going to give you that vinyl feel, and eventually, you will want to use the vinyl timecodes... nothing compares to vinyl... :)
I run a PC and will continue using one, the features are all there at a fraction of the price. For someone that buys a new laptop every year, the price factor is huge, I still havent seen a MAC that blows my equipment out of the water, or do anything I cant do with my PC... my two cents

or you can go with asus g series laptops... its another gaming machine, i have the G53 and MBP... both machine are awesome

I have Asus G50V series for almost 4 years now. Awesome machine! didn't gave me headache ;)
