Cyder, maybe you should read this article. We all aren't that misinformed.

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080523/oil_profits_080523/20080524?hub=TopStories

And you are right, the Governments allowing this to happen are the ones to be blamed more than the oil comanies, but all that profit is just that, profit. That is after the cost of refining, drilling, and shipping the finished product.

Linking me to a liberal blog does not impress me. especially when they don't credit sources of their information. Anyway gas has a supply chain everyone gets their cut however the biggest cut in the US anyway is taxes. Government takes their cut and its way more then the 8-10 cents per gallon the oil companies actually get. Just like any commodity futures markets drive the cost as well. So really if you are looking to lay blame its with the stock speculators who are easily swayed by the fact we are running out (even thought it will take 60-70 years to actually happen. Also in the blame game how about detriot? Humm yeah do they care whats happening why don't we have a more efficient means of travel yet? What happens when it goes over the minimum wage where its more profitable to stay home on welfare then go to work? Who would make your big mac then?

When asked what could be done about rising gas prices, the CEO of Exxon said "Stop buying it." Thanks guy.

CTV news a LIBERAL BLOG!!!!??????

hello?

The article was not a blog it was a NEWS article from a Canadian broadcaster. I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of the network, it doesn't broadcast in the USA. As for it's sources it was clearly stated in the title of the article; The Authors name was written, and he works for ctvnews.ca, which means he'd have access to the Associated press wire service, etc.....

Did you even read the article? -or because it wasn't American you dismissed it? as a liberal blog?

yes because thats what the media is good news doesn't pay the bills you know. I don't know the author or have any links to who or what he stands for, for all I know he made it up. The article itself is more opinion then fact. Factual documents have links to sources and you can actually email the author and ask them about it. Just for fun I read it again its more of the same blame it on him or her. Show me where they got the exxon numbers from, who did they talk to at opec? How do they know these things?

Look the fact is there is a problem, and no amount of good or bad reporting is going to give you both sides of the story. Does anywhere here know how the prices of gas are broken down if you did you wouldn't write this nonsense.

Well Cyder, currently, to my knowledge, the majority of our gas prices are in refining and taxes. Here in the U.S. not one new refinery has been opened without major heat from the environmentalists causing nothing but grief for them. And to appease them Congress has granted them money and way to much lobbying power.....then again I could be wrong, I am just a caveman....

When was the last time you read a news article with links to anything? Everyone I read has the article - good bad or indifferent, prehaps the atuthors email at the end of the article, and if the publication allows for it, comments (which this one has.) read a couple of articles from the New York Post, There's no links

random example:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/05272008/news/regionalnews/mayhem_in_harlem_112705.htm

Yes the article was the same old same old, but oil companies are very poweful and it's going to take something like the class action lawsuits agianst the tobacco industry to change it.

BTW:
http://www.fin.gc.ca/toce/2006/gas_tax-e.html

There's your price breakdown for Canadian gas prices; It's a couple of years old but the points it covers are still valid

the cost of the oil has very little to do with the cost of gas at the pump...the cost of the raw crude purchased before refining makes up only 15% of the cost of the refined fuel (even less with deisel and jet fuel so give me a sounf, logical ,no bull answer as to why deisel and jet fuel cost more at the pump then gas.....even MORE GREED).

HAs anyone noticed that the cost of oil in the store (you know the quarts for oil changes) has actually gone DOWN and so have a lot of the oil change places, most oil changes places are down to $19.99 (at least here in Phoenix) where a year ago you could hardly find one for less then $39.99......so if the cost of oil is what is driving the cost of gas up, doesn;t it make sense it would also DRIVE THE COST OF OIL UP........

Don't listen to the bullsh*t it is all simple GREED by the GASOLINE companies (most of which or subsidiaries of the oil companies)....hey, if people NEEDED my Dj service and I had a monopoly on it and they had no real world choice but to hire me at whatever price I charged them I would be charging up the ASS for it too.......................

I smell a major political debate coming

that's not a picture of me ......almost no one in my family looks like that .....

Agreed Marcel....that or us all stopping our frivolous usage of gas. The C.E.O. of Exxon stated under oath that as long as the American people are still buying it up at these prices they will continue to raise them....

Sources? Did you just say sources? Cyder, come on with that silly shit. Because you have a source, it's suppose to mean something? Maybe to the ill informed. What if your source is wrong, because his source is wrong? What if your source is a lying piece of shit? No wait, there's more. What if you are the President, and you make up your sources? What if the sources you use, are paid by you? Surely you have heard of this, or do you need me to provide sources? Some of us that have been around awhile, before computers, know how to get the info we need. Just because the Internet has made the info instantaneously available, does not make you smarter. If anything, it has made some of us link smart. Some of you guys need to put down the mouse. Trust me, there were smart people before computers. How do you think we got them?

By the way, speaking of sources, what is the big headline today? I just ask the questions, and let you find the info yourself. That's because I'm fair and balanced. Wait, did I just say fair and balanced? I think I'm gonna throw up, all over my sealed financial settlement with the women that accused me of sexually misconduct.

the ungrateful gold diggers .... our vp of human , uuhhh stuff says sexual misconduct MUST be limited to the booth during normal business hours ....

MY SOURCES say 95% of all lies are statistics ......

George Carlin's
Solution to Save Gasoline :

Bush
wants us
to cut the amount of gas we use.....

The
best way
to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal
immigrants!
That
would be
11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas
would come down.....
Bring
our
troops home fromIraq to
guard the Border....

When
they
catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a
canteen, rifle
and some ammo and ship him toIraq ...

Tell
him if he
wants to come to America then
he must serve a tour in the military....

Give
him a
soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.....

After
his
tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended
this
country.....

He
will also
be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot..... .

This
option
will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a
solution for the
troops in Iraq and
the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves..
.....
If
they refuse
to serve, ship them to Iraq
anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo.....
Problem solved.....

ALL i can say is Phuck me sidwways......cadillac deville killing me ........i only work part time and....part of paYCheck goes to gas..lmao....i cry occasionally at the gas station

Think I'll move back to San Francisco and ride my bike and take the BART and MUNI everywhere I go. Damn.

This is one of the reasons I no longer work in the UK. I still have a house there but now work in Saudi Arabia. The price of road fuel here is a joke when you see what the US and the UK are charging. I don't want to make you cry but I fill up the tank on my Chrysler (17 Gallons worth) for 30 Riyals Thats about 4 pounds or 8 Dollars. Now someone try and deffend Rip of UK prices!

I know the only shure things in life are death and taxes but these guys are being taxed to death!
